| As the owner / business view point 10:03 - Dec 30 with 1440 views | turtle2 | We all agree to some extent that a central striker is probably necessary - but as has been pointed out already this morning - number of goals scored indicates we could potentially make it through to the premiership with what we've got ? I have been a bit skeptical of some of our performances - where we pick up 3 points and that says it all really - if you dont feel like your really there and you get to half way and have done what we've done then it opens up the possibility of pushing through now and going for it with what we have. As an owner / from a business perspective perhaps the conversation now turns to the inevitable "huge" spend that would be necessary if we are promoted - probably closer to 200 mill this time around- given we are currently cash rich and would bank a cartload more if promoted maybe the owners are sitting down with KM and explaining that if we can make it now with no spend he will have an almighty budget come the summer.... it seems pointless getting promoted and then scrambling around the bottom again next season so we will have to spend big .... 200 mill doesnt scratch the surface in the prem but not wasting money now would be a good thing ? Personally ive never seen a team score so many goals with such a need for a striker ......says it all.. if we can do what we've done to the top club to a few more teams then we are going to get there that much seems clear - no reason we cannot | | | | |

The number 9 signing has been a difficult one to do for years simply because there aren’t many who can do it, and I don’t see this January being much easier in that regard.

| As the owner / business view point on 10:52 - Dec 30 with 1308 views | ringwoodblue | Look, if we can loan a decent striker (like Piroe) and he scores 10 goals between Jan and May then that’s got to be good business and good for our promotion push. Agree that we shouldn’t be wasting any more money on players who won’t be good enough in the PL. You could argue a Dan Neil type player to add to our central midfield solidity. Having a fit Wes Burns will be like a new signing as well | |

Hirst has had injury issues in the past and did extremely well to play so many games up to his injury. Can we rely on him not picking up another one? Azon isn’t the answer. I agree he works his socks off, but strikers who score goals are much better in my opinion. Azon doesn’t look like a goal scorer to me. Decent off the bench to unsettle defences but that’s about it. A Marcus Stewart type signing could be the difference between promotion or not … just as it was all those years ago under George.

My hope is that the overseas scouting can come up with a prospect who has all the qualities, but no-one really knows whether he's good enough or close to PL standard. He's a proper athlete and Championship capable so he's going to cost a few quid and have resale value, but he *might* just leap forward a la Delap into a PL ready beast. If we're breaking the Championship record spend again to do it, so be it.

And yet if you listen to the post-match Coventry comments, they are waxing lyrical about Azon, and many would bite our hand off to add him to their squad. Our system doesn't need a 20+ goal per season No.9. If Hirst is out for long, we would benefit from some loan cover, but imo a lot of people underestimate what Azon brings. He's also only a few cms from more goals.

He worked tirelessly last night and gave their CBs a lot of work to do. He's got a hell of a leap on him too, for a shorter, heavier built lad. The shot just before Clarke scored that Rushworth saved was well hit too, just inside the post and most keepers wouldn't have got down to that. In short he's becoming pretty effective at what KMc wants out of him. Sure, he goes down a bit too easily perhaps and snatches at his shots a bit too, but I think he's a victim of the some of the same criticism that Hirst gets from people who haven't quite understood, yet, how we play.

Marcus Stewart would never have fitted in this team. McKenna doesn’t play the way Stewy played. See also Sammie and Akpom.
| As the owner / business view point on 16:14 - Dec 30 with 789 views | MidlandsBlue | I slightly agree, but generally we've been at our best once we've gone ahead and forced other teams onto us. We would have gone ahead more often and earlier on in games if we had a clinical striker. In terms of promotion spend, I think it would be a very different £150m compared to previous. 5 players not 10 so to speak. I'd imagine a GK, Defender (RB?), CM, CAM, CF. Maybe a RW depending on where you see Egeli in the future and if there is faith in Mcateer and Burns. You would assume GK we are happy, but would we search for an upgrade. I'd also assume happy with the defence, but would expect Johnson, Clarke and Young gone so would need an extra RB. CM alongside Matusiwa (maybe a cover option also?), Np10 (but has Nunez got this nailed, so it's more to replace the likes of Akpom). LW.surely is sorted. I expect the idea of building a more prem ready team is fairly well.laid out at this point | | | |
