| Memories of aborted trips to away game anyone? 14:54 - Jan 4 with 903 views | Keno | Years ago my mate and our two partners were going from Ipswich to a London game, QPR I think. As we got into London we heard the game had been called off so were persuaded to go on a shopping trip in the city. We are in a posh shop in central London my mate and I wondered into the sport dept where there was a lovely pyramid display of assorted footballs and sporting bits. My mate picks a ball from a bin next to it and throws it to me with a call of 'On my head" with the intention of skilfuly nodding it back in bin. I throw, perfectly I might add, he miss-heads skying it rather at which point it knocks down a hanging display sign which in turn completely wipes out the pyramid display While dodging bouncing balls etc we left rather quickly | |

It was 1995. I got to Bury St Edmunds so could have been worse.

Christ, over 30 years ago. I only started to go to away games that season when I finished high school.

I was one of them. Travelled from Newcastle (the one in the Tyne) on the train. No snow until I left Manchester for Stoke

I went to Maine Road in the League Cup. We were 2-0 down hen the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. From memory I think we won the rescheduled match 😂😂

Great night actually, still the best pie I’ve ever had at football and at extra time win, about 600 of us up there. I remember the old gal with the bell singing Christmas songs outside. I suspect the tourists at the Ethiad these days have a different pre match experience to Moss Side.

| Memories of aborted trips to away game anyone? on 20:35 - Jan 4 with 432 views | patrickswell | Everyone’s getting the Man City abandonments wrong: 1) The 2-0 at Maine Road was a Premier League game, played 32 years and 1 day ago, as it happens. The replayed fixture was the first City played when Francis Lee replaced Peter Swales as chairman. They won 2-1, though we did score first. 2) The League Cup game at Maine Road was abandoned at 1-1 part way through the first half. We won the rescheduled match a week later, 2-1. | Memories of aborted trips to away game anyone? on 20:41 - Jan 4 with 417 views | Che | Back in the 70s a load of us were travelling to Liverpool by train, we heard the game had been cancelled near to Liverpool. We spent the afternoon in a pub near Lime Street. It was the only game cancelled that weekend, I was a bit suspicious as both teams had important European Games the following Wednesday. | | | |

I was on the A14 near the A1 on the way to that one with my younger cousin. He'd not long moved back here from Portugal, still don't think that he's managed to get to an away game. He lives in Northern Territory of Australia now so unlikely to be getting to one soon.
| Memories of aborted trips to away game anyone? on 10:45 - Jan 5 with 216 views | IndependentlyBlue | Seventh of January 1967. Travelled down to Town with a mate to see us play Scumbudgies. Got to the station to find out match was off. Hopped back on train to Colchester and went to watch the U’s play Peterborough in the FA Cup. Think Posh won by three or four. Remember the walk to and from the ground seemed interminable. Freezing day, awful game. Stand out memory was of Posh supporters behind one of the goals kicking out some corrugated iron sheets at the back of the stand and chanting ‘Layer Road is falling down’ for the rest of the match. Would say ‘Happy Days’ but would be lying | |
