Anyone with any additional insight about this?

I know we are bottom of the league, but we were promoted last season. Was there an expectation we would be more competitive?

Our team do look a lot smaller and less physical than the other teams in the league. We seem to concede a lot of goals from set pieces. I'm not sure we have a hope without some significant recruitment.

Interesting timing, but correct decision I feel. Despite the promotion, credit in the bank was probably somewhat limited as there is a strong case it took a season or 2 too long to make the step up. We also don't appear to be learning from mistakes in the season, still far too vulnerable at set pieces and losing tight games that would have been crucial to staying up. So nor real harm in rolling the dice.

From the interviews after they won promotion last season, it seemed he was under quite a bit of pressure to get that promotion particularly with the players that they had brought in. While the WSL2 was always going to be difficult, the club obviously expected better than that first half of the season.

Interesting comment on BBC about it.

The club (rightly) take the Women's team incredibly seriously. We were by far the best resourced team in the 3rd tier, not winning the league would have been a substantial failure. This season, we just haven't adapted, we only needed to finish 2nd bottom and we look a long way from doing that. Hard to know how much influence he had on recruitment, but we are just missing physicality to a ridiculous degree. The Bristol City game we lost 7-0, and tbh at times we were the more technically skilled team. Didn't stop us being obliterated.

Some of the best days I’ve had following this great club have been watching Joes teams through years. A couple that stand out for me are the 13-0 trouncing of MK Dons last season and the 5-0 beating we gave to Chatham in our PR debut.

Beyond the pitch, Joe's impact resonated deeply within the Ipswich community. He championed women's football, inspiring young girls to pursue their dreams. His commitment extended to nurturing talent, providing opportunities for players to develop and excel. Sheehan's legacy will live on, remembered for his passion, integrity, and unwavering belief in his team.

The Tractor Girls, under Sheehan, achieved remarkable milestones, creating memories that will last with me for a lifetime.

So Joe, all I have left to say is Thankyou.
Once a blue, always a blue

Makes little sense to have hm stepped down to replace him with Wright for the rest of the season, but wait and see i guess.

If I read the BBC article - suggests he has stepped down from the Ladies 1st XI manager role but the club are keen for him to find another role.

Reading between the lines, suggests his ability to coach at a lower level and/or develop more junior players is where the club sees his strengths, but taking a professional team to the next level of performance has been too challenging.

Sometimes a role does not work out as you hoped, but your employer sees that can can add something elsewhere so you move into that role - hopefully works out for both parties.

I overlooked that. Hopefully we do find a post he is happy with.

I didn't think there was relegation from WSL2 this year as they grow the WSL and WSL2.
