Clarke vs Philogene league comparison 14:37 - Jan 21 with 1329 viewsSamWhiteUK

Some interesting numbers here.

Goes to show, in my opinion, just how unlucky JC is to have found himself on the bench behind Jaden. JC is one of the league's most talented players and until recently he has found himself second choice. It says a lot about our squad depth.

JC is much more creative, but scoring from 25 yards tends to trump general creativity, hence JP's game time.

If both had scored 0 goals at this point, but all other aspects of performance had been the same, and we had to pick one, Clarke would be playing.

My personal opinion only...

Home games feel more comforable when Jaden starts and Jack comes on later.

Away games feel more comfortable whan Jack starts and (if available) Jaden comes on later.

Philogene has scored better goals, but on the whole I don't think there's a lot to choose between their performance levels. Only shame is they both play in the same position really, as having 1 on each side would be delightful. Benefit of course is being able to make that sub in the 2nd half, its a lovely luxury to have.

"scoring from 25 yards tends to trump general creativity"

For whom? The fans? Because Clarke has more goals than Philogene now. Will he stay starting when Jaden comes back, do you reckon? Or are his goals from not far enough out for KMc's liking?

The biggest area it highlights for me is that Jack Clarke has created 7 big chances but only has 1 assist to his name.

Says alot about our finishing doesn't it.........

Extraordinary.

I always felt Clarke was taller, but they are the same height.

Isn’t Clarke something like 3rd in Championship goal contributions over the last 3 years, despite spending one of them in the prem?
If we go up, feels like we won’t need to tinker with Davis with either Clarke or Philogene ahead of him, unless a big offer comes in for one of them. Then we’ll hopefully get to see how they’ve progressed.

And this is modern football and squad depth.

We are making substitutions without it being detrimental to our game.

The point is that it's hard to keep Philogene out the side when he's scoring goals out of nothing.

Clarke has generally had to work harder for his goals and they've come later in games.

I don't disagree that Clarke could make the spot his own.

I think you have to be careful here because whilst JC has played less overall minutes and has higher chances created and very similar stats elsewhere you have to factor in their minutes are still similar but Philogene is starting more games. It is much harder to score and create in the first 60 mins vs coming on fresh against tired legs in a more stretched game.

I would be expecting to see % wise much more chances created per minute for a player doing more of the last 60 minute action.

Philogene is a more complete player for me. But they are both top quality championship players. I think Philogene has more tools for the prem. Clarke has to develop his game and his retention much better for the prem. He's also much less effective off the ball for me. But he was much better tracking back last night.

Have thought for some time JC is the better " all round " player, and he turns up away from home too. I don't care if a goal goes in from 25 yards or feet as long as it goes in!

I agree with this ..... I feel JC is a much more rounded player and dare I say it. More of a team player.

Its great when Jaden 25 / 30 yarders scream into the back of the net but sometimes a pass off to someone in a better position might be the best option. You can score with every shot you take. But we're lucky to have both in the squad. I just feel sorry for JC that he appears to be second fiddle to JP . Others on here im sure will disagree.

An added factor would be to compare home and away stats. My feeling is Philogene is first choice at home and has been very effective and that Clarke is first choice away and has been very effective at it. That might just be coincidence, though. For Clarke to play so well at home recently and score two last night is all great too.
