| Anyone hearing of an interest in Adam Armstrong? 14:16 - Jan 25 with 4121 views | Len_Brennan | He was mentioned to me as a possible target a couple of weeks ago, although clearly behind Bamford & Wilson, so with those two out of the picture, might he be a serious contender for us now? I can only see him linked with Wrexham from reports/Google & my source is not connected to the club, so there may be nothing in it; but it seems like Southampton are prepared to let him go, he's (surprisingly) only 28 still & is a proven finisher at Championship level, so I'm kind of thinking now, why not? | |

| Anyone hearing of an interest in Adam Armstrong? on 14:55 - Jan 25 with 3828 views | Parky | Definitely an upgrade on what we currently have, but just can’t see us paying what Southampton would want (rumoured £15m). McKenna obviously likes him, but he doesn’t really fit our ‘model’, not exactly a hold up striker either. | | | |

Why wouldn't we? We have spent those sorts of fees on players no better pedigree in the Championship. I have thought for a while he would improve us.

Our style might change as the squad develops. Armstrong is exactly what we need. An out and out goalscorer. Edited as I’m an idiot! [Post edited 25 Jan 22:32]

Who is "Alan" Armstrong? Adam Armstrong is the Southampton forward we are rumoured to be interested in and who the OP meant. Alun Armstrong was a player for us in the 2000s.

That’s a lot for a player who has been in the Premier League before and proved he couldn’t cut it.

Bit of useless information, but Alun Armstrong is now the manager at Gateshead FC.

Alexander Armstrong has also been linked but he would be a pointless signing

22 November 2001. Can we just take a moment to remember that goal at home against Inter Milan. Mamma Mia! That was the most nervous I've ever been in the last 10 minutes of a Town game! Tvery muchWTD

No potential to sell on for profit, doesn’t fit our system as a target man, who brings in other players. Just think if we’re spending £15M on a striker, it will be someone with more potential and/or be better suited to our playing style.

Our style of play has chanced. We don't use our striker to bring in other players. The other players do that for themselves. It worked fine when Broadhead and Chaplin were left and right tens but now our left sided players are wingers and our right ten is more of a playmaker.

Nope, he got the boot a couple of weeks ago. I think they ‘promoted’ him to head of development and got a new manager in.

Get where you’re coming from, but disagree. We play a lot of ‘long’ balls to the striker to hold up and pass off. You’ve only got to look at the Blackburn game where 2 of our goals came from clipped balls to the striker.

Whether he is worth that money is a different argument. If we can't get anyone half as good or better in and he would be enough to get us promoted, that has to be worth a lot regardless of whether he is then good enough for the Premier League. To say he wasn't good enough is a bit one-dimensional too. How much chance did he get in a poor Southampton side? I haven't watched enough of him to know whether he is good enough.

Hirst for me has never been overly brilliant at the link up play, what he was good at was pressing and pinning sides back Hirst isn't slow but definitely better suited when sides push up We used to invite teams onto us more, we now tend to control the game and force sides to sit deeper which doesn't really suit Hirst. We need a cleverer numher 9 who is good aerially
