If someone invests a lot of money into a company or product - you know what, let’s use a football club as an example - then expectations go up. It’s not that hard to understand.
It’s not modern or whatever derogatory imagery you use in your loser mentality world.
KM has done a fantastic job and I still think that we will go up automatically but top-two is the aim and that should not be watered down. If the top two weee winning nearly every single match then that would be exceptional circumstances but both aren’t exactly trailblazing this season. |  | | |

I'm not sure he underachieved in the Prem. Not sure where that idea came from.
We went up too quickly, didn't have a squad capable of staying in the Prem and we didn't.
Sure, he could've picked up a few more points here and there with a plan B, but ultimately it would've taken a heroic effort to keep that team from relegation if we're being really honest with ourselves. |
We didn’t go up too quickly. The players were promoted because of their extraordinary efforts resulting in them being the second best team in the league.
Close season, resulted in fresh challenges and unfortunately we were relegated - no one failed, just weren’t good enough.
But with that parachute money comes better finances which should result in better players. | | | |

I"ve only been a Town fan since the 1970s and until recently we've been a "small" club making the most of our limited resources, at a few times doing exceptionally well with those resources, punching above our weight. When Evans bought the club he did back his first Manager financially but that manager wasn't very good so failed. Then in McCarthy he found a manager who did a great job in keeping the club in the division, even made the playoffs, without the financial backing our competitors' managers were getting. Expectations were low as we understood the circumstances McC had to work with. Nobody was alleging entitlement.
Then in April 2021 Evans sold up and since we have had the massive benefit of new owners providing financial support to the chairman and manager at a level that no previous chairman or manager has ever had. Quite rightly expectations should be higher and for most of us they are. Yes we are still small compared to many but we should be at least punching our greatly increased weight.That's justified expectation. Not entitlement. [Post edited 26 Jan 14:09]

I agree to a point with the language used. Not so much re expectations, people don't tend to navigate through life without forming these, but "acceptable" is a pretty charged word. It's often the duty of fans to roll with the punches, as it were, when failure occurs despite best intentions.
Some people do get overly agitated by others using matter-of-fact language, though. Few enjoy failing but we've all experienced it as some point in life, and often there's no shame in doing so. On this occasion, given how the league's played out so far, I think there would be great disappointment internally if the objective of promotion wasn't met. | | | |

Not just a failure, but arguably a disaster given the fact that Leicester, Southampton & Sheffield United have all squandered their seasons & parachute money, plus Birmingham's relatively underwhelming challenge.
Next season most of them will be much better, but Wolves, Burnley & one of West Ham, Leeds or Nottm Forest will come down, while Wrexham will probably still be there splashing the cash again.
Going up this season, along with 2 of Coventry, Middlesbrough, Hull or Millwall, as opposed to 2 of that lot next season, would also give us a far better chance of staying up & establishing ourselves as a Premier League club. |
I had not thought about that part enough.
if we do go up this season, we should be guaranteed to finish about the other two given the journey we have been on, the infrastructure/resource/recruitment advantage we should have as any of the other lot will not have been up for years.
We only then need one established PL club to have a bad year, like a Palace making a poor summer appointment and getting their summer transfer window wrong, then 17th should be there for the taking.
We have to go up this year, not least for those reasons. The other related clubs will not be as poor as Southampton and Leicester next year. |  | | |

Think that aligns with most fans tbf JD but ours is more of a hope than expectation, it'll be their expectation of course as they are the ones putting the funds it.

We also binned off cook quite quickly, whilst it's turned out to be extremely beneficial, at the time it was incredibly quick for someone who'd just had a mass player clear out, they definitely didn't hang about - which was good for us. I'm more worried about the upheaval of players/Kieran leaving rather than missing out on promotion. I really want us to be successful ie Top two.... but i bloody hate the Premier League. Bridge I'll have to cross if we get there.
Journey is , for me, far better than the destination.
