Cov are absolutely blowing out of their @rses here.

I really fancy QPR to do a job on them on Saturday as well. Should give Norwich a nice little shot in the arm ahead of going up to Boro as well.

If we beat Preston I’d be surprised if we haven’t further closed the gap on at least 1 of the 2 by 5pm.

Alright, mood hoover.

Just to clarify, we've reeled in both Boro and Coventry in the last 6 weeks or so, and our one wobble and poor performance at the weekend doesn't change that.

Not to mood hoover, just a note that we still have work to do on ourselves, we are nowhere near the finished article ourselves yet, despite us making progress as the season has progressed - there is still a lot of work to do with this group, with the Town 2.0.

6 weeks ago we were 5 points off Middlesbrough in 2nd place, today we still stand 5 points off Middlesbrough in 2nd.

I hear you, but one of our 2 main rivals getting the yips has to be celebrated, Shirley?

I can understand why some might, but I don’t have the faith in this group yet that we will capitalise on slip ups, like Saturday, and it’s pointless celebrating rivals yips if you don’t capitalise on them yourself.

A bundle of joy aren't you?

The 6-match form table has us 1 point better than Boro and 6 points better than Coventry.

Yes, we aren't perfect, but we just need to continue to be that much better than our rivals over the last 18 matches.

I’m more realistic about not getting carried away until I really believe there is something to get carried away about - I haven’t seen that in this group yet.

We’ve got plenty of tough days ahead us this season yet, Wrexham (A), Stoke (A), Watford (A), Southampton (A), Boro (H), Millwall (H), Hull (H). I would suspect we’ll end up around the 70/75 points mark, I’m not sure that is going to be enough at all to close the gap.

If we want to hunt the automatics, which should be the absolute aim, we’ve got work to do to go through the gears to get us to where we need to be.

We’re 50 points from 28, the only stat that matters.

We’re still 8 off the top, and 5 from second, coming of the back of another disappointing away display, let’s address that issue first and foremost.

There’s no point in celebrating Norwich goals for beating Coventry if you don’t capitalise on the slip ups and drop points yourself.

don't prejudge the preston result, we might capitalise on their slip-up yet.

why do you think a team who've won their last 7 home games are incapable of winning one more?

What do you mean, I’m not prejudging anything, I think we should go into the Preston game with full confidence on our home turf, we look a strong outfit at Portman Road.

Even if we win though, Boro also play Norwich and would maintain a 5 point gap, whilst Coventry play QPR and would maintain an 8 point gap should they win?

is it realistic to think that a team on 2 points a game form, will suddenly slump to near relegation form (1 point a game gets us 68 points, and you think we'll get 70)?

it's abject sky-is-falling-in pessimism!

Yeah there’s no way that’s happening. If we don’t get to at least 80 points I’d be really surprised. That probably wouldn’t be enough for top 2 but I think we’re capable of doing what it takes.

I am just not sure why you think we will go from nearly 2 ppg to hardly more than 1 ppg when you seem to think we are doing poorly at nearly 2 ppg. I get that you are eternally pessimistic but that is quite extreme.

If you want tricky games left, Coventry have: Boro (H), West Brom (A), Sheff Utd (A) and Stoke (H) next month alone. They also have Bristol City (A), Hull (A), Blackburn (A), Preston, Southampton, Derby and Wrexham all at home. There are no guarantees they will win all the rest of their matches too.

Ultimately it is about getting enough points from the games we have left to play. If we end on 70-75 points we will have had a dreadful last 3/7ths of the season on relegation form.

It’s contextual isn’t it though. 4 of the last 6 have been at home, we know how strong we are at home, but 10 of the last 18 are away, 4 of the next 5 are away, we’ve won just 4 away games all season.

I said between 70 and 75 points, which you have conveniently rewritten in your response. We are still at 2ppg after the next 5 games you can say ok, now we’re serious, but ahead of that let’s just cool the engines a little.

We’ve got work to do.

are you standing by your 70-75 point prediction then? what a bizarre hill to die on!

we've won 4 of our last 9 away, which isn't great, but it's playoff form(>1.5 ppg); add that to our above autos-home form, how the hell do you get to "70-75 points"?!

Again, you’re not contextualising the ppg, we know how strong we are at home, as has been seen in the past 4/5 weeks, hence our ppg has spiked.

But if you used the basic metric across the board for ppg and apply to the remaining fixtures
1.23 x 10 =12.3 (away ppg)
2.27 x 8 =18.16 (home ppg)

Will see us return 30 points, 1.66 ppg finishing on 80, which I personally don’t think is enough, and I also think we have a really tough run in, hence I would edge towards us finishing more around the 75 mark.

I think we will finish around the 75 points marks, that’s my final answer Chris.
