Which of our strikers is going to step up in our remaining 18 games 20:36 - Jan 30 with 1316 viewsunstableblue

Azon?
Hirst?
Akpom?
Szmodics? (If he stays)

And get the goals we need to crate a really strong run of wins

Or are we reliant on Jaden, Clarke and Mehmeti??

I think it’s Azon!

It'll be azon but only IF KM gives him a run of games, stop this rotating striker stuff.

Agree - Azon. He does most things right, and hasn’t had much of a break yet. I hope he starts tomorrow. No slight on Hirst, he’s still important, but time to allow Azon show what he’s got about him.

Well carry on as we are. We divide the workload between Hirst and Azon. Hopefully a couple of jammy ones gets them going

Do you think switching the 65/25 mins roles is working though?

Thought Hirst played himself into some form against Cov at home, weak start to that game then grew into it… but then next game Azon is the 65

Wonder if it does stunt them gaining true form

I think we're reliant on Philogene and Clarke, primarily, with others chipping in. Because that's the way ITFC is set up to play.

I do think that Azon will score more goals in the remainder of the season. So often his chasing and harrying gets him into scoring positions, or to where he can assist. The 'keeper is not going to be able to pull off great saves every time.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

He's the least likely look at his previous goal tallies.

Not sure Akpom suits how we play so Hirst is the one if he can rediscover his touch and shooting boots.

We’ll have to agree to disagree then. Azon has shown massive development imo, and been unlucky with several shots (denied by the post, outstanding save, etc).

He’s young, new to English football and seems to have a good footballing brain. Give him time, and imo he’s the one no.9 we have that could make it in the PL. Time will tell (if he get’s the chance)

Hirst, he just needs a goal or two and then he will be back in prime form again.

Azon is 23. Guess how old Hirst was when he came here, and what his previous goal tallies were?

Also 23 on the back of scoring 15 for Pompey the previous season

As a player I agree with you he has improved hugely no argument there.

Just as a goalscorer I don't think he's a natural finisher and his record shows that.

Would love nothing more than you to come back gloating in May if he gets 10 goals :-)

Hirst is an odd one he hit a purplish patch two promotion years and actually did alright at the end of the prem season, had big hopes this year but he seems to have regressed. Currently being outscored by a scummer who doesn't play anymore kinda says his goal scoring is not good enough.

I worry more about his touch and simply holding the ball up as much if not more than his lack of goals, if I'm frustrated by it then I've no doubt KM is..

It should be Hirst for me. Hopefully he’ll get one and find his feet again.

I have high hopes for Mehmeti. He is real hungry. Thats a characteristic missing in our front line. I do wonder whether Akpom can really be this useless, therefore Akpom, im sure there really has to be more to him in the final third of the campaign. I like Azon in what he brings outside the box but im not relying on him to suddenly score 15 goals in 10 games for example.

If we don’t sign a striker, then we will be reliant on Clarke and JP. None of our strikers are good enough.

Hirst’s 9 goals last time in the Championship were good enough, Moore chipping in with 7 in the second half of the season were more than helpful. The top 3 goalscorers that season were Broadhead, Chaplin and Hutchinson.
Leif’s assists have diminished but Nunez has taken up some of that slack. My feeling is we need McAteer, Burns or Egeli to start scoring a few more and Mehmeti hopefully scores a few. It would be great to sign a goal scoring striker (feels funny to have to describe a striker that way) but if the above mentioned do the job really won’t be necessary.
