It’s a shame. We haven’t got anyone else quite like him or who plays in that role. He’s not working here though as we need a support striker who feeds the wingers rather than being the focus/running in behind type. He won’t be back, but I wish him well. He seems like a great teammate. |  |

That city goal was sammy at his best, we just never could play him the way he wanted to play, and that's ok, just I guess questionable why we signed him, but lets not focus on that, just enjoy the goals he did score and for him personally hopefully goes on and does well for himself further. Just hopefully not to well and gets derby up the league to us lol | |

There is a #10 role & then there is a #10 role, and unfortunately Sammie is not suited to playing the version in a 4-2-3-1, where he is in the between 2 other attackers, who both look to cut inside, leaving little space to run into, especially where the vast majority of opposing sides are parking the bus with bodies in a defensive low block system.
Sammie operates best as a supporting striker type, playing off the centre forward (4-4-1-1 or 5-3-1-1) or perhaps on the left side of system with 2 #10s (4-3-2-1). These formations suit teams soaking up pressure & playing on the break with pace; Sammie's intelligence, pace & touch when running into space puts him into good scoring positions, while his finishing is top class at Championship level.
Ironically, these are skills that we are likely to be in far greater need of IF we manage to get back into the Premier League, probably playing with an extra defender and/or midfielder & the opposition don't set up so defensively against us.
Truth is, Sammie was not being played to his strengths with us this season & Mehmeti is far more suited to the role of #10 in our system, with his quick feet, clever passing & shooting ability from a more stationary position. [Post edited 3 Feb 6:44]
