| Andrew emails as Envoy to Epstein 09:23 - Feb 9 with 3101 views | nrb1985 | Latest reports and findings show that he sent on what you would assume to be fairly sensitive reports from his various trips as envoy within minutes of receiving them. Surely this ultimately ends up with him behind bars now? If it doesn't then I would question if the monarchy can survive. Soliciting brass is one thing but sending government "secrets" is surely another? | | | | |
| Andrew emails as Envoy to Epstein on 09:37 - Feb 9 with 1462 views | bluelagos | I think a lot depends on how hard plod looks. They've been reluctant thus far to consider his actions but hopefully that changes. And the role of Lizzie protecting him and Charlie still housing him shows exactly what sort of family they are. | |

I think it's really hard to see how they survive this without him at least being subjected to criminal investigation. Even if they banish him to the middle east it looks like one rule for them and another for everyone else. I'm not Republican by any stretch but I think it's looking very precarious for them. They are going to be asked continuously about this and get heckled everywhere they go.

Yeah, but the lemmings still turned up in numbers at Dedham last week. There are a lot of them if truth be told. Be good to get rid but they'll survive for a few more years no doubt.

If a member of my close family required my support (eg a sibling) they’d have it. I don’t always agree with what they do or say … and in this case Andrew has done some terrible things. But I’d stand with my close family members, while making clear to them what I thought. I think your comment on “what sort of family they are” is pretty harsh. They might well be a loving and supportive family.

They're clearly loving and supportive of a paedophile, to the tune of several million pounds.

Putting their reputation before the welfare of sexually abused under age girls... That's what they did. You want to carry on supporting them that's your call pal.

'it looks like one rule for them and another for everyone else.' Well that's exactly what our constitutional monarchy is: 'However, three important factors distinguish monarchies such as the United Kingdom from systems where greater power might otherwise rest with Parliament. These are: The royal prerogative, under which the monarch may exercise power under certain very limited circumstances Sovereign immunity, under which the monarch may do no wrong under the law because the responsible government is instead deemed accountable The immunity of the monarch from some taxation or restrictions on property use. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ '

You might do that once - but this was clearly a systematic thing that went on for years, and years - even after JE was convicted of being a nonce to boot. You'd imagine (or would like to think) somebody close to him got a hold of him after JE's conviction and said, this is probably not a good idea. And from what we know about Andrew - he was too up his own arris to pay attention. I don't think I would standby a family member who did that having been warned.

“Pal”? I’d put up a sibling of mine, if they needed my help. Seems to me the King is doing no more than that.

The Royal Family is a ruthless machine and will do whatever it takes to survive whilst putting on a public display of unity. Once, it was deemed necessary to protect Andy but now, if they think the public mood is to get rid of him, then that is what they’ll do. Their press releases may well be full of kind words and empathy but their number one concern is for their ‘brand’ to survive. And it will. The late Queen knew what he was like and decided to pay his victims off in an attempt to bury this scandal but that didn’t work. At heart, I’m a republican but there is no way that the vast majority of the country share this sentiment. Hopefully the Royal Family will be trimmed down and their finances fully transparent. Hopefully the Met will investigate with the full weight of the law enforced upon the Royal Family as well as others - obviously this won’t happen, Andy may well be banished but what that family knew will be covered up. One rule for them and all that.

As far as we know from what has been disclosed Virginia Giuffre was seventeen when she was introduced to Andrew Mountbatten, a minor in Florida but she was introduced to him in London so above the age of consent. So not quite JImmy Saville level of molestation, technically legal but the age difference and the imbalance in power of the parties makes for a more than uncomfortable situation. If the Royal Family were a ruthless machine Andrew would have fallen out of a window long ago.

At the very real risk of sounding all conspiracy theorist- if he does indeed go down that route, what are the chances of him being found dead with suicide judged to be the cause of death?

Not sure bailing out a nonce to the tune of £12 million worth of taxpayers money is quite the same thing though...

Not really a question of sounding better, just a desire to get the legal accusations crystal clear so that the law is not only served but seen to be served, and now that Royal privilege has been removed, that the law applies to all and to the same extent.

This is quite a take, but also completely ignoring the difference between your family and the royals in terms of positions of power, use of taxpayers money etc etc

At that point to be fair there was some small degree of plausible doubt that the royals could hang their hat on. The photos was fake, one persons word against another etc. Now the emails have come to light that fig leaf has fallen away they haven’t a leg to stand on. Now he needs to show his face in the US justice system, and face the full consequences on both sides on the pond or the Royal family are toast.
