Interestingly, the only films I've seen him in are To Kill a Mocking Bird and True Grit, and that at a time when he was largely unknown.

I can't say I remember him in those films or what part he played but he clearly was a very good actor, and lived to a good age.

That’s how good some of these great actors are and I also didn’t realise for years it was him …. As an aside I don’t know if you meant it but you reminded me of “whoops apocalypse” … Rik Mayall .. “right my lads” classic… thanks

And when he died and I saw his face in the news, I first thought that it was he who had appeared in Jaws. But that was Roy Scheider.
