Nothing game for Wednesday, and a visiting fanbase that will travel in significant numbers if allowed. Given their financial situation, it would make perfect sense for them to open up the entirety of the Leppings Lane end if safety certificates allow.

What's the state of play with the stand these days? Wikipedia suggests that the upper tier can hold just over 4,000. Is it now only partially used? Or will it be a phased release of the upper tier, too, depending on demand?

It’s only partially used… the safety certificate (a novelty at that ground, I know) for the Leppings Lane upper is for less than the number of seats because of the lack of concourse space below.

| 2400 for Sheff Wednesday on 10:17 - Feb 25 with 1555 views | tractorshark | Loads of seats were greyed out this morning. About 8-10 rows at the front of the upper tier in the middle. Is that club allocation?? Wouldn't have thought they'd need that much. I will be mightily miffed if we see a repeat of the Norwich carve up from a couple of seasons ago. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Wednesday reduced capacity for the away sections after safety issues were raised after the Newcastle Cup .game a few years back. Was to do with over crowding on the concourse/access. Probably related to that reduction in capacity.

Do we reckon it's likely to get to Season Ticket holders, given the larger allocation? Or will that be subsumed at APP stage based on the fact that it's an easily-reachable day out?

ahh right. Thanks. Sometimes you log on and you see banks of seats already completely greyed out and you wonder why.

I think it’ll reach season ticket sales tbh, we will definitely get the lower tier so that should take the whole allocation to nearly 4,500 which will be more than enough to see it filter down.

Looking at the pattern of those blocked out on the seat map first thing this morning, coupled with the mentioned safety certificate requirements to reduce capacity in the upper tier, it looks like they've accomplished that reduction in part by not bothering to sell the seats that would otherwise be restricted view so the greyed out blocks are much bigger than usual. Typically the Club retain around 170-200 seats for Club use + ballot. The club announced 2400 initial allocation, and 2135 tickets actually went on sale this morning, considering an unusually large disabled section at Hillsborough (62), it seems Club retention for this fixture is no more than usual.

The not selling restricted view seats makes sense, as there is a big diagonal stripe in WU2 greyed out. I'd be amazed if they're all sold, and it fits the sight line of where one of the big pillars are perfectly. Edit; same in WU6. [Post edited 25 Feb 15:42]

We could have took another 1500 or more. Just ensure its a non season ticket area. Its business at the end of the day.

Some clubs decide to sacrifice income to reduce the away support and gain the perceived benefit a smaller away following would give them over their opponents. Coventry did this last time we were in the Champ.

if overcrowding is a problem there how the hell do Palace and more recently Wrexham get away with it?

And Watford. Maybe they don’t have stadiums where 97 people have already died due to poor crowd control?
