| What's this about 'several' US jets crashing? on 09:37 - Mar 2 with 1984 views | Guthrum | Reports suggest that two F-15s were shot down by Kuwaiti air defences. Incidents like that happen in war. Quite possible their identification transponders (IFF) were not operating, or somebody got a bit jumpy when they saw inbound contacts in amongst drone attacks. Edit: There are pictures circulating on the internet. Assuming not faked, definitely F-15s and looks like a surface-to-air interception. [Post edited 2 Mar 9:39]

They don't seem to want to say much at the moment. It was during a heavy attack from Iran apparently so could be some missile defences gone awry. SB

So it could still be the Clangers?

| What's this about 'several' US jets crashing? on 10:04 - Mar 2 with 1783 views | BackToRussia | There was an interesting story about a week ago that implied Iran had somehow got very advanced technology (presumably from China) that allowed them to jam US planes. Obviously didn't work when there was a large attack, but perhaps in more isolated situations they can? | |

That'll be radar and communications jamming and spoofing. Won't actually cause aircraft to crash (tho it could work on drones).

If that was the case then it might be because these are F15s which is pretty much the oldest fighter jet the US would be using in this action. SB

The Russians supply a lot of weapons to the Iranians (and vice versa) and have used similar jamming technology in Ukraine. There was even an incident of the Russians jamming the jet of a European diplomat/politician (forget which one), they didn’t ring it down but it was a ‘look we can do this’ kind of incident. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Pretty sure that was just GPS spoofing, which in itself is not good, but not something that would be capable of downing an aircraft.

As no one died I suppose it's not in bad taste to joke, but the words of the Duke of Wellington spring to mind. "I don't know what effect these men will have upon the enemy, but by God, they frighten me." [Post edited 2 Mar 13:01]

Yes, the F15 Strike Eagle is an old aeroplane (and still a very good one) but the stuff on it won’t be. I’d also be surprised if Iran had anything to cause this whether sourced from China, Poundland or the Clangers. My money is on a simple mixup between Kuwait air defence and US.

It’s looks like the Iranian regime is pretty much unaffected by the US taking out the Ayatollah. I’m sure that’s not what the US were hoping. It’s stick or twist time now for the US. Do they ramp it up to put more pressure on? I presume there’s a limit to what they can do without boots on the ground.

Trump is already laying the groundwork to abandon it. He's said Iran want to resume talks. Israel will probably push for them to just keep bombing forever.

From the horse's mouth. It's "not a so-called regime change war", but the regime "surely changed and the world is better off for it", says Hesgeth. Hegseth also says that the operation against Iran will not lead to an "endless war". Instead, he says, the US's aim is to destroy Tehran's missiles and other security infrastructure.

I doubt they’ll get rid of the regime. It’s too well established and embedded. Beneath all the propaganda, do the Iranian people love the Ayatollah, the fundamentalists etc or want rid of them? Anyhow, the US can dismantle its missiles, drone factories, military from the air to a certain extent but I can’t see boots on the ground in this one. Body bags would be political suicide for trump, regardless of the number of lies he spews out.

In reality the regime hasn’t changed, someone else will pick up the baton. He also said the US didn’t start the war but will end it.

Exactly - it won’t be regime change any more than it was in Venezuela- just another opportune moment to weaken them. It only ends that way if the Iranians rise up or the regular military steps in.

They've just facilitated a younger, keener Ayatollah, slightly sooner.
