IMO one of the best performances by a Town side ever. If it had been one of the big clubs that got that result against that side the media would still be talking about it today.

Believe Platini said we were the best team he *ever* played against.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Made a famous team, and one almost unbeatable at home look very very average. Tried to give them some hope by letting them score first! I think we psyched them out in the tunnel pre match, made such a noise their players were terrified! I got the semi final away leg at Cologne, my Father got St Etienne, we divied it up, as he was recovering from a life saving heart op! When he came home from France he said he couldn't believe what he'd seen. He just couldn't believe we could be that good! I also got the final away leg in Amsterdam too, happy days! It would be great if todays younger supporters can get even a whiff of what's that like. I hope so, for their sake.

I may be wrong, but I think that was the first time they had lost at home in a European competition? Their line up included a number of top internationals. That must be the most impressive result from an Ipswich team. We also won the 2nd leg of course.

Mud rain and fizzy French beer sticks in the memory...5 mates in a car and a stunning win against some of the best in the world at the time.
Very happy days

Not live on Radio Orwell, just ‘Goal action’ updates during the evenings normal show! Me and a mate in a Chantry bedroom. One down, shite. ‘Goal action’, fingers crossed, an away goal! That’ll do nicely. And then…..

Which was worse - the pitch or the quality of that old videotape it comes from?

Matches weren't shown live generally then were they? I guess it must have been published as a highlights programme but the whole match must have been filmed. I wonder if there is a decent recording in existence anywhere.

Platini, Johnny Rep, Patrick Battiston and Gerard Janvion were their main men.

Wasn't there a story that Town players had been out on the piss the previous evening and Robson was due to fine them, but after the game because of the result he decided not to ?

Never mind the search for new antibiotics, why isn't anyone harnessing the power of Ai to redo all the old footage of the Robson teams.

Should be much higher up the priority list.

Remember it well , long journey but very much worth it - got chased around the ground before the game , no segregation , after the game more scuffles and I still have my Green and White St Etienne trophy scarf following one of them - loved away days in Europe , this one and Helsingborg away were my favorites..
