Really good interview why America are going hard at Iran on 15:49 - Mar 5 by Steve_M
There's no coherent objective, let alone a plan or cause.
Absolutely nailed on that we'll see Iran bombed to rubble over the coming months, tens of thousands of civilians killed, and no exit strategy remotely thought through.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

And a corresponding upsurge in extremism as this will give the various Islamist groups an easy open goal for recruiting people who wouldn't otherwise have gotten anywhere near radicalisation.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

The extremists are currently running Iran!
Iran is Shia, and their proxies have largely been at war with various Sunni extremists groups (typically Saudi backed), so they are unlikely to take up arms for Iran. Iran’s allies like Hezbollah will struggle for arms if the regime falls (though I can’t see that happening). It’s a complex sectarian situation.

Given the rise in oil prices due to uncertainty elsewhere, I wonder what the tipping point is that makes it viable?
Besides Venezuela has other valuable natural resources
We are probably there, but it would take years of investment in new fields and logistics, and with projected oil prices a huge gamble. There are much better prospects in more politically stable areas with better infrastructure* like their domestic industry which will be the biggest beneficiary of the current spike in prices (given they are the largest producer but typically their fields are more expensive to exploit than many in the Middle East for example).

FP journalist: And why hasn't Marco Rubio communicated these real intentions for the attack on Iran publicly?
Israeli American journalist: Because it's incredibly foolish to tell a super-power adversary this is part of my war against you, (but it's perfectly okay for you to invite me on to your show for me to state it.)
Duh.
The rest of the interview was equally difficult to listen to. Seriously, this appears to be quite clearly a war for Israel, irrespective of what this dude says.
I prefer these guys, they are not journalists with a message to peddle, they are former CIA analyst Larry Johnson and Col. Lawrence Wilkerson:

Not entirely true. While Trump himself may have no coherent objectives and plans (beyond being constantly in the news, receiving praise, making money and not getting sent to prison), there are several groups of people around him who do have very specific agendas. If one, or an alliance of several, can get his ear, there will be a definite direction for a time, until it stops working, he gets bored or someone else diverts him to another topic.
What the commentator says about a "hawkish towards China" faction is undoubtedly true (it's not even solely Republican). It's quite plausible they they've set Trump on a path of denying resources and allies to Beijing (at least in their world-view), using Israel as a helpful tool in the process. Autocrats often like seeing their militaries being aggressive.
