I remember looking at the "+/-" statistic a little earlier in the season, and the leader was Furlong.
That stat, for a player, is purely the goal difference that the team achieved whilst that player was on the pitch. They use it in ice hockey, where of course certain players play in short bursts with whole rosters being subbed on and off at will, so the stat is able to highlight what happened when a particular player was involved.
So it's possible that Furlong is doing pretty well on the ppg (with weighted sub appearance) measure too. I guess he's been first choice RB for most of the season barring the very start, when we did poorly.
For some reason I can't now find the +/- stat anywhere for football. It may be that Nunez or Mehmeti are doing well on your weighted ppg, but you said that the answer surprised you, and people have pointed out Nunez and Mehmeti's starting ppg stats recently, so potentially you're not thinking of them.

(correct me if i'm wrong, but from what i could see) he has over 2 points per game when starting, and never lost while coming on as a sub. won 8 of the last 9 league games he's started.
thought burns would be higher than him, but some distance between the 2... wonder if sindre starts more often against weaker opposition with burns/mcateer getting the nod when we think there'll be more defending needed? | |

Gosh that's surprising.
Is there a home/away issue distorting the data? Does Sindre start more at home and less away?
Given that most of us have been a little underwhelmed with him, it's amazing that he beats all others on this stat. But then, it's healthy to have one's views challenged by objective data sometimes.
Doesn't mean he's been our best player this season of course, but interesting nonetheless... | | | |

it's not an exact science just to give more weighting to a start...
eg game 1=win, game 2=loss
player a starts game 1, sub in game 2:- gives them 3+0 points in 1.33 games, average 2.25ppg
player b sub in game 1, start in game 2:- gives them 1+0 points in 1.33 games, average 0.75ppg | |

I like to calculate the players' "personal goal average" (goals scored divided by goals conceded during a player's time on the pitch). Taken with an enormous chunk of salt, it could be seen as an indicator of an individual player's effectiveness.
