Sir Wes 13:14 - Mar 13 with 1445 viewsitfc48

As I understand it, his contract is up in the Summer. Does anyone know if there has been any talks of an extension?

He's certainly worthy of one, but guess he might want to go back to Wales.

Might depend on which division we're in. Personally I think he deserves an extension but the fact that we made an offer in January for the guy from Millwall makes me wonder whether we are looking to replace him

Given how quickly McKenna restored him to the first XI and has kept him there, i suspect he will see an extension. Whether it will match Wes' expectations or not is a different question. Can see Wrexham(unsurprisingly) on the cards, especially if they don't go up.

Insider info from elsewhere in the squad... America is his likely destination, enjoy him while he is here.

And if we do look to keep him if we stay in the Champ, then he might be forgiven for feeling a little unloved, with so very many players having been signed at great expense in that position (albeit when he was injured), plus as you say, Femi Azeez only very recently.

You can see a team like Wrexham offering him decent wages in the knowledge there'd be no fee, and he's surely got at least a year left in him at this level.

As I think he's the best we have in that position, and given the successes of which he's been an integral part, I'd be gutted to see him go. His goal of the month against Coventry was certainly one of the best I've seen at Portman Road...

Which he is free to do now.

Ah well, another goal in a match that secures promotion would be a perfect way for him to bow out.

I wouldn't begrudge him a pay day to be fair. He won't have been on silly money for most of his career, and it's probably only the most recent one he signed with us in 2024 that would be getting close to that.

You're a long time retired from football, if he can get a 3 year deal somewhere that will earn him a couple of million quid he's probably well advised to take it, and after what he's done here he would have to go with everyone's best wishes.

Why would he go to the United States when he could go back to Cardiff and get himself a nice little flat overlooking Barry Island ?

Has anyone got the phone number of the guys that persuaded Gerrard to stay at Liverpool rather than go to Chelsea?

Yes, probably one of the best pound-for-pound signings in our history so fair enough if he wants to set-up his family for life and experience a different country, as he owes us nothing.

There must be several players uncertain of their future , which may depend on which division we are playing in next year.

If we don't go up we must be talking:

Button
Townsend
Baggott
Young
Akpom
Kipre
Cajuste
Neil
Azon
Humphreys
Chaplin
Burns
H. Clarke

Not a bad position necessarily from a 'squad management' point of view given the fringe nature of a lot of these, and its not to say we couldn't sign 1 or 2 (Kipre for example), but likely to be a big churn. Not to mention Muric, Ogbene, Szmodics.

got to do our business earlier this year; if we hadn't given boro an 8 point headstart, (whilst having to play ogbene, szmodics, young, johnson, chaplin, humph, broady, chaplin and aah) we'd be in a much stronger position!
