Oh how we've missed the impact of a player like 23/24 Omari ... 10:01 - Mar 17 with 1777 viewsBellevue_Blue

I cant think of a single goal we've scored like this all year from either the left or the right?

What a player he became from March onwards.

Quite a lot of Philogene's goals have been coming in from the left? He just ends up in the box / just outside it?

And, I know it was far more central, but it would be remiss of us to not use this as an opportunity to remember his screamer against Norwich...

Leif provided one for Hirst in a home game earlier in the season. Can't remember which game though

Hutchinson was brilliant for us the second half of that season. He played with devastating freedom and was far too good for the Championship. He scored 10 goals that season, a lot of them real quality, what a shame he left this club in the way he did.

He’s 22 now so plenty of time to strengthen and develop. I still don’t think Forest was a great move and think he’d have been better off at a club like Fulham.

But before we get too moist, he had his ineffectual games and it also took him some months to adapt, contribute and become the player he became. This is precisely why the lack of patience and in some cases hatred of our current players is lost on me.

I think we definitely have missed a profile like Omari in the team. Someone with real speed who can beat a defender both ways in full flight. I'm a fan of Clarke and Jaden of course but they are a bit different and a little bit less fun to watch.

An Omari like player on the right would have been helpful.

We bid for Azeez in Jan so looks like Kmac agrees.

I watched the Hull away match in the Great Albert Hall during a Welsh choir festival thingy (my missus’ choir were part of it). Me and the lad were hunched over my phone with an ear pod each.

I don’t think the they’re used to people celebrating top bins worldies in that place. I got a few funny looks and tuts

He was unplayable towards the back end of that season.

A special player for us.

So was Delap. Both cost a few quid, both worth their weight in gold, and both went on at a profit, with varying degrees of blessings from the fans.

Pretty much the model that we thought we were pursuing, albeit with relegation not part of the plan, but planned for in any event.

That model works really really well as long as when you reinvest the funds, you get a high enough proportion of the decisions right. The money that's been spent down that right hand side really is headscratching. You can't get them all correct, but either Ogbene, McAteer or Egeli should have grabbed that RW shirt and we should be wishing Wes well like we did with Chappers et al who saw us through an amazing period but were not going to be the future.

As it is, many of us believe that Wes is still the most effective we have in that position. I'm happy to give Egeli a bit of a pass, because (a) he's very young, (b) he's shown flashes and scored a few, and (c) I'm still salivating at the goal he scored for his previous club the week before he joined us.

But yes, we miss Omari. Not much chance of him doing a Warky and having three spells with us, but we move on, and there will be others in the future in that position whom we love. If we don't go up, I hope that Egeli and McAteer do a Clarke/Philogene and show that you can be a standout player even after an imperfect transition phase into a new club. And if we do go up, I imagine there will be another big ticket purchase and Egeli will be the apprentice. Thank you for the opportunity Lord Sugar.

If we go up, I imagine Omari and Delap will be two players we would be sniffing around and very happy to have back here.

They're rarely real team goals are they.

He's largely just deals in individual goals.

However, he has been injured and Clarke's cutting in from the left goals have dried up since the New Year.

A lot of that is, I think, due to teams fearing exactly that possibility and making sure whoever's playing that role is heavily marked. Which, in turn, has opened a bit more space in the middle for Azon, Hirst, Nunez and Mehmeti.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

It took Omari a month or two max. You could see by November how good he was going to be. We are still waiting in some respects for the two you mention to be spoken about in the same way.

How many has Jaden got so far this season? And how many rival the quality of Hutch's?

Yes, Hutch was brilliant, but as you say JP & JC have produced their own moments this season too. Though fwiw, I don't think either have the ceiling that Hutch had or has.

Well JP has 10 from 20 appearances, unless I’ve read Pride of Anglia wrong. Clarke has 13. Omariscored 10. A good achievement especially as he offered so much more than that. He was however playing in a settled, established side which JP and JC haven’t been.

For my money, Clarke is a better player than Omari, albeit older. If Hutchinson starts improving again he will probably overtake him. Philogene - just as talented but very much a wide player. So but for his behaviour in leaving this club, I’d playground pick Hutchinson first.

I think because so many hate or resent the current players, there’s a danger of looking through rose coloured spectacles at players of the past.

Both of them are better players than Clarke for me. And Omari is comfortably the best of the three. Clarke feels like a player that will perennially have a career being one of the best players in the Championship but not good enough for the PL.

What's really clear from the last 3 seasons is that often the separation between being good enough for the PL or not is consistency. Players like Clarke at their best I think are PL level. The problem comes if you can only maintain that level for 1 in 4 games or so.

Seconded - imho Omari if he kicks on from here could play regularly for a top six prem club, Philogene has potential to be a mid prem player, Clarke feels like a lower prem/top championship.

I don’t think Hutchinson is physically big enough for top six club. He still looks lightweight and is no better now than he was a year ago. He needs a move to a better club and manager. Everton maybe?
