Portsmouth postponements & FFP 14:15 - Mar 17 with 2392 viewsSamuelowen88

Listening to KOA and they mentioned Ashton saying that the Portsmouth postponements have cost a few hundred k, and that that is counted in FFP.

Thats ridiculous!

Surely only the cost of the fixture that goes ahead should count?
Otherwise we get unfairly punished for Portsmouth not being able to put up a suitable surface.

I don't think that's strictly true tbh. It wouldn't be an allowable addback on the face of it from a FFP point of view, but exceptional items would be at the discretion of the regulators to determine if costs genuinely fall outside of normal operations, which they almost certainly would in this instance (assuming we could reliably quantify it and we were so close to the line that we needed to do so).

So while MA is right in what he says, it would be very unlikely to actually cause an issue for FFP.

I'd imagine they'd be considered "one off costs" and not included in the FFP but I'm no expert and sounds pretty unfair if true

25 hotel rooms for a night and 300 miles of travel in a group. Done twice without playing a game. And that cost a few hundred thousands! Would never have happened under any previous ownership in the club's history.

Never forget that in April 2021, for ITFC, the Game Changed.

There will be way more than 25 hotel rooms when you factor in staff, and he'll be including the wages/time etc. It's not a surprise it costs that much at all.

Didn't realise they were paid by the hour, thought they were all salaried so would be no extra costs. They wouldn't get overtime surely. Also 25 rooms should be enough for players coach physio etc. at a normal club but ITFC is extravagantly staffed these days on the owners' money. Presumably for example there will be one hotel suite for the chairman and another for the chief executive officer.

Even if it doesn't count towards FFP, it's pretty poor that our opponents in the Championship end up costing us hundreds of thousands just because they /repeatedly/ can't create a playable surface.

Given the hundreds of items of expenditure we had to incur in order to meet the PL's requirements, I do think the Championship should have minimum requirements in relation to the one thing that you really really can't do without if you want a game of football: a playable pitch.

Probably a few more than 25 rooms would be required when you consider they don't share anymore

Match day squad , KMcK , Pert , Physio , all the media personnel etc etc

As I said "extravagantly staffed". The gravy train won't flow indefinitely.

Hardly extravagant.

11 starters
9 man bench
1x extra always taken incase of injury (minimum of 1)
3rd goalie

Thats 22 with just playing staff.

If two trips to Portsmouth cost £300k+, then Ashton isn't doing his job properly.

It's the "media personnel etc (whoever they might be)." I call extravagant not the footballing people.

Still seems quite a punchy figure, only one of the Blackburn trips was an extra/unexpected one.

Not sure whether Town ever did it or if they still would back in the Championship, but it is normal for Premier League teams to book out an entire hotel.

Some would suggest the media bodies aren't needed but they're the ones creating the clicks on line and the helping with revenue streams , content and keeping the Club relevant with the fans and the footballing fraternity = INCOME
