Apols if duplicate thread but not really. Heard some chatter about what the best result for Town would be? Obviously a massive humping. With Norwich on the wrong end of it.

They are the momentum team who will win the play offs, we really need to get to 2nd asap and stay there.

Has anyone ever won the play offs, got relegated and then won the play offs for the 2nd time in 3 seasons?

Leicester did it in 1994 and 1996.

Nothing to separate us and Southampton on 6 game results, so it’s wrong to suggest that they have any significant edge in momentum. And that’s with two dubious decisions going against us.

Over last 5 games they are top of form table so there's my stat!

They have won 4 and drawn 2 of their last six, same as us, so we have the same momentum as them.

Southampton 1 Norwich 0 is one of my favourite non-Ipswich results of the season. Puts an end to Norwich’s play-off fantasy and knocks Hollywood out of the top six. I don’t fear Southampton in the play-offs since we are going up in the top two. The three promoted teams will now be the three best teams in the division this season: Coventry, Ipswich and Southampton.

I think one of their fullbacks came off injured and they are down to the barebones if that keeps him out for a few games. Which might be helpful.

I didn't think they were that great, nor were Soton. They'll obviously raise for us.

If we can keep Disney and the scum out of the play offs fantastic - and us going up second. off all the clubs I'd like Soton to come up through the play-offs. I'd really love for Cov to fall away as Lampard is one of the most annoying people out there, but somehow unfortunately don't think that will happen.

I saw about an hour of it. I didn't think Norwich are as good as their recent form suggests tbh, their press didn't look especially well executed and Saints managed to play through it pretty well. Bias aside they're a bit mid IMO. Their keeper is average, as is most of the rest of their side. Solid but unspectacular at the back, workmanlike in the middle but they don't seem to have much X factor, and they're lightweight up front. I rate Paris Maghoma, didn't play for Brentford this season and clearly lacking a bit of match fitness but he's got something about him.

They're a young squad (McLean aside) and seem to have landed on a good managerial appointment. 3 or 4 good additions in the summer and a top 8 playoff place is definitely in reach next season, but they're certainly no world beaters. I actually think 'stylistically' they're a very good opponent for us in a few weeks. Hopefully we can go into it off the back of 2 home wins.

The thing that worries me is that Nodge are now playing with the relaxed air of every game being a free hit. No pressure. They've been near the bottom of the barrel and escaped intact, don't have much hope of top 6, they can relax and enjoy the experience.

For us there's top two at stake. Plus for some reason I've never quite understood, we always seem more effected by the derby jitters than they do. Hence why such a poor recent record v them, even when we've had the clearly stronger team.

Not worried about either league position wise at this point.

Really just want Nodge's form to take a bashing, so they shut up for a bit, and don't come into our pending match feeling invincible.

Glad to see they've gone behind.

They've played no one half decent in their 'run'. Cov in the middle of a slump half decent team turn up, Birmingham for instance, and their done.

Taken from BBC Sports page
Norwich head coach Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"We were the dominant team against a team in really good form - first half it was in the balance, but the second half was totally ours.

"In total, we had more ball possession, more shots on target, more chances than them, more passes, more corners and several clear chances and the goalkeeper played the game of his life.

"Those things happen in football but the way my team played was really impressive, for sure in the second half.

"It's a really good performance, but we don't have the result we deserve. We need to continue in every game trying to push for great performances like this. I'm not busy with the ranking [table], I'm busy getting the best out of this squad."

He's not wrong about the top-line stats BUT most of their 'attempts' on target were really low xG. 0.01/2/3 level in many cases.

Both sides looked very ordinary, and Clement appears to have instructed his players to 'shoot on sight', playing the percentage game. Most were really low quality attempts though. So yes, lots of shots (which some will appreciate) but very little troubled the Saints' 'keeper, with the exception of one excellent save.

Just read through the online comments ...The Saints fans constantly refer to what a dirty team narwich were. with numerous hospital challanges ..and naturally Ref did little to stop it .

Suspect the derby game is going to be a bit fiesty ....

The correct answer is obviously a massive on-field brawl with a few broken legs, multiple sending offs and a retrospective 15 points section for both sides. They also have to play their remaining home games behind closed doors (away fans allowed with unlimited allocation).

They're talking bobbins to be fair, Norwich picked up a few yellows but they weren't especially dirty. Downes (unsurprisingly) was the only player I saw grapple a Norwich player to the floor, get a yellow and then go back for more and push Mattsson away quite aggressively. Pelle Mattsson is pony by the way.

Norwich are soft, their full backs Fisher and Stacey are as weak as kittens and they're lightweight in the final 3rd.

On the other side of the coin, on current progress Saints should be comfortably in the play offs by the time we play them, and beginning to focus on keeping their squad fit for those games. Also, at the back of their minds they might not be desperate to have us also in the play-offs. We might not get quite as much of a hard time on the south coast as a result.
