I know it's a thin distinction, but I reckon *someone* at the club may well have set this up. Terry Butcher was already mentioned as a potential.

He was invited to the Chairman's suite. This was more than a tour as the club have lied to us about.

I don't know which is worse. Inviting Farage or so blatantly lying to the clubs fans.

I'm disgusted by the club and embarassed to be a Town fan currently as yesterday the club stood for everything i despise by inviting these abhorrent indivudials into our club. To then lie to us just rubs salt in the wound. Whatever happens on the pitch for the rest of the season is going to be tinged with sadness at what my club has done in the last 24 hours.

The number of freinds and colleagues asking me why the club i follow have done this and i have nothing to say but show absolute disgust and shock. I'm not proud to be a supporter of Ipswich Town Football club currently. I never thught that would ever be a feeling i had.

The boardroom was part of the tour when I did it.

If Farage is now publicly stating that the club invited him, then I urge Phil and others to seek clarification on this “no official involvement” line from earlier today. Both cannot be true, and we need to know who is lying.

No, not at the moment

Just because he has no official role doesn't mean he can't set things up or get access to this sort of thing.

This plus the Athletic information - Phil/EADT seriously need to push the club on this. As independent local journalists it’s so important the club is properly held to account over this.

The club dropped the no official involvement line in the official statement.

I’d said earlier on X, I’d assumed this was because Reform had the receipts that they were involved and The Athletic and Farage confirmed it.

Not a good day for the club.

They won't because that will be the end of their relationship with the club.

The club has lied. They've tried to shrug it off and totally underestimated the depth of bad feeling this has created with a vast section of our fanbase. Its an absolute car crash

If today’s proved anything it’s that both of those parties will just push out whatever town sources say without many questions asked unfortunately

Which would make it not officially sanctioned by the club at all.

I guess what I meant is push for clarification on why that was the ‘off the record’ line initially.

Not sure if I’m in the minority here, but as repulsive as I find it to see Farage in those pictures using us as a PR stunt for his abhorrent grift, the thing that’s really bothering me about this is that somebody in a position of authority at the club has a) made the calculated decision that all of this was either ok or could be swept under the rug, and b) has seemingly fed Phil / EADT misinformation in quite an underhanded way.

No, not at the moment

If I was Phil I'd be livid, especially given the thread/poll from earlier, where he essentially stated that he'd reported the club's stance in good faith.

I understand why Phil is keeping out of this, but the club banning TWTD for asking legitimate questions about this matter would be an even bigger PR gaffe.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Quite. Inviting Farage is one thing, and bad enough, but to then lie about it, or at least be economical with the truth is another.

If they'd just come out and explained the situation clearly, apologised for those it's offended and for making an error of judgement, and made clear their postion it would have helped diffuse things somewhat.

The club's PR is one thing that could definitely been criticised at times during the upturn in fortunes for the club, this episode just shows they are miles off and need to have a thorough review of their current procedures. I'm never one to ask for heads to roll but it is an element of the club that doesn't seem fit for purpose lacking in leadership and/or expertise.

Your last two lines sum up my feelings completely. Over 50 years supporting the club and I’ve never felt like this about ITFC - even during the worst seasons on the pitch. I really don’t know how that is going to turn around in the short or even medium term, for me personally.
