| ASHTON on 10:30 - Mar 28 by Blueschev | I didn’t think anything could make this worse, then I hear his “apology”. F@&k the club, I’m out until he’s gone. |
Well you don’t ever want the club to be promoted again according to your post the other day. In other words you want it out of business. I’m a little surprised you are still posting. I presume your tickets are on resale and DD cancelled. The club is not the CEO or any other employee or even the players. It is primarily the supporters - the loyal ones, such as the Duncan sufferers or Evans Endurance Cadre who are here before and after them. It is its whole history, present and future and as a provincial club what it does in its area. I could never use a term like ‘F@&k the club’ because that simple phrase not only defines him as the club which he most certainly isn’t but more important denies a future of something exciting and fun for future generations. Something Evans did and I don’t wish to see repeated.

I went to quite a few games during the Duncan years and don't think they were as bad as people remember them to be.

| ASHTON on 10:47 - Mar 28 by WeWereZombies | I've been a supporter for sixty three years and can understand Blueschev's stance. Not one I'm fully with at the moment but yesterday afternoon I did take down my wide angle poster of the stadium from the Walsall game in 2000 (7th May, attendance 21898 and I've never had a problem with it showing Wayne Brown's name and signature) from the wall where it was put up when I moved in twelve and a half years ago. The replica share certificate signed by Sheepy, Joe Royle and Jim Magilton is off the wall too. Debating whether to put them back up in the light of Ashton's supine confession. But I do beat you at how long have I been a supporter top trumps... |
You do beat me there. Give you that. My Dad took me to my first game. Remember it to this day. Wolves at Portman Road.Still have the programme, see, I can’t give it up, it’s always been my life. Cannot see how anyone would/could. With me its loyalty, not to Ashton,no way, but the rest of it, the stadium, the seats, the turf, the players, the manager, even the smell of match day. That’s all bigger than him, as are your memories. I can remember big events in my life around certain games too, getting engaged, moving home, holidays, even my dad passing away, you shouldnt take your memories off the wall. It’s your choice of course, but for me Town will always be there.

40 posts ! Wow ! 3500 comments again wow ! Impressions are just glances. So again, I say the wider world couldn’t give a flying one. One example. People banging on about the NYT tweeting it. Yes they have 59M reader coverage, yesterday 58k had looked at it,that’s 0.01% of its reach,a speck in the ocean. By the way, The Athletic is owned by NYT, so that’s probably why it got tweeted by them in the first place.

So you couldn't care less that his image is tarnished both within and outside the club?and couldn't possibly in any way see how this would effect the club going fowards in all aspects from recruitment to sponsors, given the fact he's alienated a large proportion of the population. You're either very thick or have your reformist fingers in your ears. You've already heard that there are players within the club that definitely do care for one thing, and what do you think the general political leaning of footballers is out of interest [Post edited 28 Mar 11:28]

So did I and with a few notable exceptions (Baltacha’s debut, for example), they were. Long ball, tactics free, pretty clueless manager albeit a nice bloke. Harbey, 10,000 crowds and a sense of hopelessness. It took somebody who knew what they were doing, the underrated John Lyall, to perform a near miracle and turn that sorry mess into a good entertaining team.

Go on, i'd be genuinely interested to know the specific incidents where he has demonstrated all of these character traits. Otherwise, it just seems like an unfounded and derisive attack on someone's character. Again, happy for you to explain this and recall the times he has shown these traits. [Post edited 28 Mar 11:13]

I completely understand what you’re saying, but I personally cannot support the club if it allows itself to be used in this manner. It’s not easy. Maybe I should just not post on here anymore, which is a shame as I really enjoy the interaction, about football and the world more generally.

All of those things, the stadium and players past and present, the wonderful goals such as Clive Woods curler against Feyenoord are what makes us so fond of football and of one particular club above all others. I can't think of an alternative, it's Town of nothing (or maybe the stadium poster will get replaced by one of the Pink Floyd pyramid posters that still came with the album when I purchased my white vinyl copy of 'Dark Side Of The Moon' to replace a worn out cassette, no posters and stickers, purchased from a shop in The Walk the day after release and I'll give up on following football altogether.) But the suspicions remain (sic) that an unprincipled celebrity who has cost the United Kingdom billions (and I know someone who has lost tens of thousands of his Royal Navy pension just because he bought a French home near to where he liked to ski and then Brexit happened) and who is causing a climate of fear is about to use our Club as a rallying point and is deeply unpleasant. Obnoxious in fact.

David Lowe with rather odd stoop was a nice little player and Zondervan wasn’t bad - on the pitch, not what he carried in his aeroplane! Ahh, Dalian. Now he was worth the entrance money. Yeah, they were awful. I saw a lot of the games and plenty away too. We nearly did Port Vale away one New Years Day, having never been, but for reasons long forgotten we gave it a miss. Thank goodness for that. We lost 5-0 and were lucky to get nil by all accounts.

I certainly hope and doubt he will use our club as a rallying point. All I am saying is OUR club is bigger than Farage and Ashton. We will move on and I hope you will be part of it. I definitely will, can’t give it up,too much history between me and it. I’m a huge Who fan. Have a few beautiful posters up. I know the poster you are talking about. See, music is my other obsession. I have literally thousands of albums. My Mrs does her nut,but again I can’t part with them, to many memories. Nice chatting.

David Lowe, yes, he did have that stoop about him, but he had an eye for goal. Romeo was a good player, typical Dutch touch on him. The plane fiasco was funny, probably not for him at the time. Dalian was a monster could turn a game in five minutes. Remember the Middlesbrough game ? He tore Mowbray and was it Palister ? a new one. I remember that Port Vale game, wasn’t there but we were blo0dy awful that day by all accounts.
