One small ego trip for Mark Ashton, one ruined image of a once wonderful football club.
The atmosphere amongst the supporters is now as toxic as I've ever known it. I just hope we don't see any clashes on Monday.

Ashton out!

Poll: If KM goes now, will you applaud him when he returns with his new club?

i'm just doubting your ability to gauge the atmosphere amongst supporters. or was it particularly divisive when the oslo supporters club met at the weekend?

Really? I don't see that at the ground and I don't consider online behaviour as a benchmark as people are far quicker to type more aggressive / confrontational content, especially anonymously, than how they act face to face.

Well considering we've not played since the divisive event, I'm not sure you will see any division at the ground yet.

There has been ongoing division for a while on here and among other online communities - which has not been reflected in the ground. I really don't see this recent issue changing the ground atmosphere when you consider how widespread the fanbase is from an age and political background.

On here is hugely antagonistic fuelled by trolling and anonymity, but it is a very small representation of the fanbase.

Don't imagine large parts of the ITFC fanbase will be hugely swayed by events, and while a number of more politically aware and active individuals may make their feelings known, the majority won't.

It’s what they do innit jaykay. Straight out of the MAGA playbook of defining the other tribe as lefties even if they aren’t. It doesn’t matter what description they use, it’s just about creating us v them.

Places like Facebook and Twitter are going to be the breeding grounds of all sort of bullsh*t now related to us. Let’s hope too many fans aren’t duped and then start feeling emboldened to be openly racist/vile. I like to think most people are decent, but in a surprising number of people there seems to be an inherent willingness to believe foreigners are the root of all evil (which makes no sense, as we’re foreigners to 99.85% of the world, so does that make us all evil too? 🤯).

I’m leaning this way too. I think most people are more likely to look out for each other than turn on each other. We’ve a fairly diverse and family orientated crowd. Fingers crossed anyway 🤞

A lot of the stuff online won’t be specifically aimed at us Towen fans. We’re just an opportunity they can use to spread hatred and division more widely in the online environment.

I'd call that an indication rather than hard evidence, but I do now know where lowhouse got his assumption about forty 'lefties' on TWTD...or whatever he was trying to say.

They have 17 followers. A complete and utter irrelevance.

It's much better than anything else we have to go on Zombs. Presumably "breeding ground of left wing posters" is based on rigorous, empirical, peer-reviewed tea-leaf or lambs-entrails readings.

I don't think it's really a breeding ground, I think most of us make up our own minds.

I'm very happy here, opining, and reading the opinions of others who think the same, and of those who think differently.

However, I do think we should be aware that the centre of mass of opinion on here /is/ different than in some other places, like on facebook, and I think it is worth remembering that the majority view on here isn't necessarily the majority view of the fanbase at large. And the view of those who post most on here isn't even necessarily the view of the majority on here.

In any event, Phil ain't done nothing wrong.

"view on here isn't necessarily the majority view of the fanbase at large" - but that's not based on anything Highgate. Best of our knowledge is TWTD is pretty-much equally left and right, same as the UK, and same as Ipswich (which flits between Labour & Tories). Has been no survey of Ipswich fans' politics generally, but no reason to believe that's any different. The notion that posters don't represent wider TWTD would have to be coupled with the idea people using the up and down arrows don't either, because they're mostly opposed to politicisation & lying too. No reason to think that. It's misinfo at best.

I find the argument that TWTD is inherently left-leaning a questionable argument. I would have thought on the face of it, a football fanzine site is more likely to be vaguely representative of the general population than curated echo chambers, such as those we create on social media. So why wouldn't the reaction on here to many different topics be broadly reflective of wider general sentiment?

My reading of this forum over the last few days is that whilst ordinarily posters are representative of our overall fanbase, the constant downvoting and “jumping on” of any alternative view to the one expressed by those most outraged by what happened last Monday has driven some away. Hopefully this is only temporary because within reason I couldn’t care less what someone’s political views are when they are commenting on whether Azon or Hirst should be starting up front.

Never have j2. I've cited TWTD polls showing around two thirds of Ipswich supporters want Ashton out. What have you cited refuting that?

"I couldn’t care less what someone’s political views are when they are commenting on whether Azon or Hirst should be starting up front." - nor could I Copford. And there's only one man responsible for us having these conversations. But you're back at "posters/voters aren't real TWTDers", and "TWTDers aren't real Ipswich fans", when that's nothing more than a hot take. To the best of our knowledge, TWTD more or less represents Ipswich politically, and we can't assert much more than that.

the idea that the active posters on here are representative of ipswich is laughable.

did you see the county council election poll which had reform on 40 % in ipswich and them winning the county council?

Unless it was taken in the last month, it'll be inaccurate. Since your hero Trump blocked a major trade route and put everyone's costs up, support in the UK for Reform's brand of grifter populism has dropped by 10%.
