Sadly, KMc needs to be pressed on Farage 11:03 - Apr 1 with 2815 viewsmaxslaro

As of Wednesday morning, it doesn't look like Ashton is going to say anything else on the Farage fiasco, based on the KOA podcast

Therefore, the only other Ipswich Town figure that media can ask is McKenna.

While KMc's role is obviously solely to coach the team, local and national media have to take this chance to press KMc on what happened, how, why, etc

Things I want to know: How players feel about their shirts being moved for Farage, what KMc knew about the situation, what MA has said to KMc, how sponsors feel.

KMc is likely to avoid these questions and give diplomatic answers, but media needs to press him and keep asking.

It's unpleasent, but MA has left us, as supporters and media, with few other options to get information about this horrid situation.

Of course, MA could himself come out and face the music, but he seems too cowardly...

Why does McKenna need to be 'pressed' on Farage? From what I understand, he knew nothing about it.

Because MA isn't going to say anything else, and the club is silent. KMc is the public face and the only executive journalists can question

Indeed, nobody should be pressed onto anybody in this day and age....

No he doesn’t.

I’d go as far as saying that any journalist who drags him into this by asking him a question is bit of a bellend.

No he doesn't.

It's not his issue, he hasn't been involved at all and he doesn't need to address it.

KMc and the players have done absolutely nothing wrong, their focus is promotion, their focus is football, and that is all that they need to address.

I would agree, I would be extremely disappointed in any journo, particularly local ones who even pose any question to him on this.

Not his battle etc.

I fully expect questions will asked along the lines of, has this had any impact on the squad

He'll be asked by some. Hopefully they keep it respectful, and stop pressing when they realise he can't give them the answers they want.

The furthest I see McKenna going would be something along the lines of "it's been an unwanted distraction in our preparation, but the team and my focus is on being ready for the game on Monday".

agreed. MA has left us in a position where KMc needs to take the flack

This is utterly ridiculous now - why go out and further disrupt the playing staff from doing their jobs to answer questions which have no relevance to a football match.

You may want to know these things but others have the right not to comment on something which is personal to them and asking them because they happen to work at the same place is quite invasive and will achieve nothing apart from more disruption.

"MA has left us in a position where KMc needs to take the flack"

Can you clearly articulate why someone should be "taking the flak" for the actions of someone more senior to them and in a different function, just to satisfy your curiosity.

all of this stems from the actions of Mark Ashton. his silence and unwilling to speak to fans/journalists means KMc is the only person who can be asked. that's why

He wouldn’t need to if Ashton had “Ran Towards Adversity” instead of lied, hidden behind weak club statements and made an apology focussed on saying sorry that people felt upset, rather than actually addressing the issues. Instead he’s been a coward and left a vacuum that unfortunately KM will undoubtably have to fill, at least to some extent, even if the question is just “how has this affected the team”, which would seem a reasonable question from local journos or otherwise.

MA won't be at the press conference, or any press conference, so by default the only person who can be asked is KMc

I suspect that would be the angle some may take.

But we know certainly some sections of squad were unhappy about it, and they have every right to have their own opinion on it, and that's for Ashton to address with all the employees.

For me, I didn't have an issue with Nigel Farage being hosted by the club, I had a real issue with the denial after the fact, and I think that is a really difficult bridge for Ashton to rebuild with all the stakeholders.

But I think we all (journos and fans) really need to let this one go, we had an apology, they'll be more internal discussions to be had, but from our perspective, it should really be done and dusted now, with full focus being back on the football and achieving promotion back to the PL.

Absence of comment from one, does not mean by default responsibility falls to someone in a different and more junior role, no matter if they work for the same company.

I don't speak for my boss when he has not made comment on something, and people don't ask unless directed to me by my boss.

No - I would never speak for my boss, that is press relationship basics 101, and yes I have had media relationship training.

Please stop now on something which you obviously feel strongly about but have no understanding of.

Journalists aren't the enemy. Attitudes here are very post-democracy Trumpian. KM can straight-bat, or he might give a hint that the players were unhappy. Squad might appreciate their views being hinted at. That improves squad morale, doesn't reduce it.

Agreed Ashton should be fielding questions, not KM. But he's running from adversity.

He doesn’t need to be BUT he will be forced to due to the pathetic inactivity of MA and the board. We either need a statement providing exact and truthful details of what happened (if there are mistruths like MA has said, what is the problem of telling us?) OR MA needs to do an interview with an independent journalist (Stuart Watson?) where he can provide details and improve on his pathetic non-apology.

Totally not Kieran or the players fault but they will be taking the flack while MA hides in his Chairman’s lounge….

If this isn’t sorted before Brum, I can see the season going to shit and Kieran will be off in the summer

Not sure journos, especially those who were lied to, will let it go until the clubs mistruths comment is explained.
