No they've drawn recently
| Not that I’m obsessing over the fixtures or anything on 19:46 - Apr 8 with 1683 views | bluefunk | Hull can only get a maximum 80, Southampton a max of 81, there’s very little chance, first, that they will win every game until the end of the season to reach those levels and secondly, that one of the current teams on 72 won’t reach at least 82, so let’s stop worrying about anyone other than Boro and Millwall. (Of course I could be wrong) And I am wrong it’s Hull 83 and Soton 84, doh [Post edited 8 Apr 20:03]

Surely that’s 83 and 84 points respectively. If we only needed 9pts from 7 games, it would be all but done.

Hull can get 83 and Southampton 84 unless my maths are out. Hull 68 with 15 left to play for Southampton 66 with 18 left to play for.

They’re really not awful. Been in the top six nearly the whole season.

Elephants up a tree. No-one knows how they got there, but they are. Awful at their place against us (we weren’t much better in the first half!), unambitious time wasters at PR but woke up briefly when McBurnie came on and poor in every other game I’ve seen them on tv. Must have done something right I guess to have got there, but if we finish below them, we’ve had a nightmare set of results from here on.

Someone on here, forget who, was recently making the case that we’d be pretty much up already if we’d had McBurnie as our main striker.

Didn’t say I was worried about them just curious as to why everyone is dismissive of them when they’ve been in the top six for so long. If we get s5ithoused by McBurnie in the playoffs this thread will be reappearing!

We weren’t allowed to sign him Herby said so! Hull could be a team to make it hard in tournament football but can’t see anyone but Southampton as long as they are kept in them.

| Not that I’m obsessing over the fixtures or anything on 11:02 - Apr 9 with 509 views | jayessess | I don't think Saints are really in the conversation, just some of us are prone to catastrophising. There's an outside chance that a team with their squad wins another 6 on the bounce and gets to 84 points. That would be 10 straight wins for them, something that does happen in the Championship but very very rarely (twice this century). Even then, they'd have to hope none of the three teams above them finish strong: 4 wins and a draw for any of Ipswich, Boro and Millwall gets them to 85. It's unlikely that each team individually gets there, but good chance at least one of them does. Hull, no chance. Winning all five on the bounce gets them to 83, but neither their squad quality nor recent form suggests they're about to do that and they have the worst goal difference of the group. Any of the three above posts 3 wins and 2 draws and they're toast. [Post edited 9 Apr 12:01]

"let’s stop worrying about anyone other than Boro and Millwall." Or maybe, just worry about ourselves. If we do our bit, nobody is catching us whatever results they get in the remaining games.

In the last 8 league games they've drawn with both Charlton and West Brom, so they are certainly not immune to dropping points to teams towards the bottom.
| Not that I’m obsessing over the fixtures or anything on 11:49 - Apr 9 with 396 views | HighgateBlue | Saints have won five in a row in all competitions, including against Arsenal. They've also won 8 out of 9 in all competitions, including against Fulham. Their current manager has won almost 2/3 of his matches with Saints. They also have a game in hand on Hull. Hull's recent form doesn't show them gaining on 2nd place at all, whereas Saints' does. I don't think either of those teams will finish in the top two (Saints are 6 points behind us with only 6 games left, and we have a game in hand), but if someone were to come from outside the top 4 and finish in the top 2, it would take truly eye-catching form, and the team in eye-catching form is Saints. Hull's form is trundly. Oddschecker suggests that at present you can get 500/1 with Paddy Power about Hull finishing top 2, versus 9/1 for Saints. Hull are 3 figures with every bookie. I'm surprised the disparity is quite that pronounced, but I don't see Hull as having any realistic prospect of getting in the top 2. | | | |

Southampton are being so heavily backed in by punters they’re are now the same odds as Millwall for top 2. That’s what kind of run they’re on. If they were to better our result this weekend, people will start to get really excited about them in the market. Incredible considering they were 18 points behind Boro 10 games ago.
