| Surely time to reconsider holding FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley. 18:04 - Apr 25 with 1195 views | TheBoyBlue | Huge swathes of empty seats, Man City fans perhaps understandably apathetic about another trip there. Surely this game would be much better played at a packed out Villa Park or somewhere like that? I know it's all about money, but surely they can see the harm it's doing to the 'brand'? | |

Yep, you're absolutely right about location, especially as many Man City fans won't live anywhere near Manchester. There's just too many seats to fill for a fan base who have been there dozen of times in recent years and presumably see nothing special about going again.

Which would probably be fine for today as Villa Park would be an obvious contender. Mind you, in that case that makes us playing West Ham in 75 at Chelmsford. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

the debt associated with Wembley was paid off by the FA 3 years ago so that is no longer a valid excuse. There latest excuse will be that they've sold another tranche of Club Wembley seats on the basis that the buyers will get 2 FA Cup semi finals every year. Then they will go on about the difficulty about getting neutral venues at short notice. all nonsense - it's down to the senseless greed of the FA.

Spurs and Arsenal are the reason the damn thing were ever moved to the national stadium in London. Back in the early 90's, something can still clearly recall, they faced off at the semi-final stage and no-one knew where to play the game for a neutral venue such were the size of the club names involved. They said at the time it were to be a unique one-off experience, not to be repeated, but the English FA continued on with it on and off for the time since. Just devalues the competition or tarnishes the image but that's been done far and wide without need of venue since we won in '78. Wembley London stadium should be for Final showpiece events only, at least in regard to soccer, but as people have attested to already it's more about financial gain and commercial aspects over tradition and the true integrity of competition. Same goes with once they added sponsorship to the trophy itself.

This country has got some fantastic stadiums now, yet I can’t see this arrangement changing now, it generates too much money for the FA.

| Surely time to reconsider holding FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley. on 07:59 - Apr 26 with 341 views | OldFart71 | The only time Wembley should be used for semi's is if both teams are London based or very close to. In an age where money is tight and we are constantly being reminded that the country is trying to be net zero it makes no sense two teams from say the midlands and north travelling the length of the country. It is purely a money making ploy on behalf of the Wembley coffers. | | | |
