Has anyone watched the U21s this season and seen much of Somto Boniface?
I know it's a huge leap from U21s to PL, but it does happen so I wondered if Boniface has the potential to step up next season. I know he hasn't featured this year, but he's 20 now so with a pre-season behind him I guess it is possible. |  | | |  |

He's clearly one of a really talented U21 team following their 5th place finish.
I haven't watched a whole lot but statistically he's ranked pretty high against his peers in PL2. As a creator he's ranked in the 90th percentile for most stats, defensively slightly weaker but not overly poor.

Mendel absolutely outrageous statistically. Basically in the 90th percentile for every important stat going forward and defensively. Clearly too good for that level now.

I think both need to go out on loan at L1/L2 level.
Both been excellent at u21 level. We do need to slightly caveat our good season with he fact the very best youngsters of the big clubs are out on loan in foreign top tier clubs or championship or in some cases lower prem.
I've watched some u21s this season and there is a big step up to men's football and they weren't deemed ready for champ. Humphreys was absolutely stand out for me before he went out on loan to L1 so keep this in mind for expectations.
It's a bit surprising that at 21 Mendel hasn't played L1 on loan. | |

He's looked good when I've seen him but it's a big jump. Was a bit unfortunate to miss out on going on the first team preseason last summer as he had an injury. Wouldn't surprise me if we see him go on this one. | |

I'm not so sure. How many PL youngsters are out on loan in L1/ L2?
Most of the highly rated youngsters go through the PL2 and then to a Championship club like Omari/ Delap etc for their first loan.
I think the physicality of those leagues can sometimes dominate a little too much. [Post edited 3 May 15:54]

Think they are probably Championship level, or at least top end of L1.

I’ve only seen one game with him. The one where Burns was coming back from injury. Boniface looked outstanding in that game. But that’s a tiny sample from a lower standard. |  | | |

I went along to the play off game against Brighton. It was weird football, totally lacking in physicality. Don't think it is a good progression stage for developing young players. Boniface looked good at the level but don't think he would be anywhere near our 1st team. A year at Col U and see how he does from there.
Very sadly the days of youth teamers progressing to 1st team seem to be very rare now. | | | |
