I think he's a fantastic player. At times he carried that Boro team. But for the reasons you state, not walking into an established Premier League team, I'm not sure this is the right time to sign him. We need older and more Premier League experience in our team. Not another season of signing Championship all stars.

Man U is the latest club he’s been linked with. If a top half club comes in for him, he doesn’t have to go in as a starter. Most of them can afford to introduce him slowly and throw him away if it doesn’t work out.
If the likes of Man U or even Everton (another club linked) do go for him, we’re out of the race. But who knows. Those are only idle newspaper rumours and could be wide of the mark. |  |

He held out for a Prem offer that never came. That tells me most Prem clubs do not see him as good enough.

I think he has enough suitors that are teams who will potentially playing in Europe which will stop him coming here.
He is really good. I think he will get picked up by a top club and be a squad player and slowly be integrated in and eventually there will be England conversations about him. |  |

And this is the problem. If we are stuck with signing and relying on players who are not good enough to start for other Premier League clubs we are in trouble.
The only way around that is to pick up players who are better than they are rated as and to develop the ones we have.
It's going to be interesting how our transfer dealings go but we definitely need more Hutchinson and Delap deals and fewer Phillips type ones. | |

I think he held out expecting a PL club to come in for him, guess what? Non did. Maybe he isn't as great as he thinks he is? He's definitely good, I've seen him enough in the England youth set up to tell that, but how good? We just need to remember, we've already done " Cream of the Championship " in the PL.
