| Soucek on 20:07 - May 5 with 1419 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Strikes me as very similar to Ben Johnson - an experienced Premier League squad player. On that basis, it wouldn't excite me but I can understand the logic of it and I would expect it to be better than Phillips turned out. | |

Really? He's one of their best players? He's got 89 caps for the Czech Republic! [Post edited 5 May 20:09]

Sorry. My mistake. I don't follow West Ham at all and only half-watch most of the Premier League. I looked up his record and saw that he is often appearing off the bench and assumed he is more a squad option than a key player for them. Anyone who thinks we are going to sign a key player from West Ham is badly mistaken. Even if they go down, there will be established clubs after him.

Big and strong and good for a yellow card. I don't mind a bit of experience in the middle, but we will also need another much younger version too. Soucek won't play 38 matches. More of a yes from me as long as he doesn't hammer the wage structure. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Abso-fecking-lutely. Christ, our pivot would be even less mobile than Morsy and Phillips!

I am confused. Is he a goal-scoring midfielder who is one of WHam's best players or an immobile central midfielder who wouldn't necessarily start every game for us?

Here are some stats: Minutes Played: 1956 (6 most for West Ham) Starts: 21 Subs: 11 Goals: 5 (joint 3rd most for West Ham) My opinion is that is that he is a declining player who probably has 1-2 more seasons left in the Premiership as a decent squad player for a lower league team. I'm not looking to convince people though, that's just my opinion.

Yes. That reads to me more like a Ben Johnson type of signing than one of West Ham's best players. It does read like they either chopped and changed the team a lot or suffered a lot of injuries. I noticed he wasn't out injured at all (missed 3 through a red card suspension). I am sure we will make a signing or two like that to add experience but it doesn't make me go "wow!" The problem is, I am not sure what realistic signings we would be able to make that would make me go "wow!" Maybe Delap returning would be the closest. To get a proven Premier League striker who we know works in our system would help us a lot.

| Soucek on 22:24 - May 5 with 821 views | Vaughan8 | Decent enough PL Player but it's not like he's out of contract and he's on £90k a week. Not sure what our wage structure is like but with most others on say £20-30k, someone would need to be exceptionally good for us to have them on those kind of wages. | | | |

He's pretty poor technically and in general play, but is a physical presence who seems to time his runs well. I think of him like a bad version of Fellaini. Certainly doesn't fit our game in any way shape or form.

The is no way Soucek is a Ben Johnson type of signing. Soucek got player of the season and was joint top scorer with Antonio a couple of seasons ago. He was a leader in the team that won a European trophy. He is a decorated international player and a proven goal-score from midfield. Ben Johnson was a young player that didn't fulfill his potential at West Ham, who our talented manager thought he could get more out of. Someone that could provide a more attacking option than Axel Tuanzebe. That didn't work out. But very difficult prospects, at different stages of their career, with different question-marks over them. Johnson - Did he/will he ever have it in him? Soucek - Does he have another season or two left in him? My opinion, yes, other opinions, no. But comparisons to Johnson are crazy. Only thing the same is they would come from West Ham.

Funny. I looked up his wiki page after my last post, and Mourinho made the same comparison to Fellaini, just not quite so disparagingly 😂

To be fair Soucek cost them £20m and has pretty much been a mainstay in the West Ham & Czech side for the past 5 years. Johnson was the Myles Kenlock of West Ham, he started about 30 games for them in 5 years.
