Was out most of yesterday, didn’t follow at all, but knew how things stood at close of play. Switched on TMS at about 10.15 this morning thinking it was an early start after time lost yesterday; heard in snatches while doing chores, after about 10 minutes thought “jeez, this is going to be a 1.5 day Test … only realised at 10.45 that it was a recap of yesterday!

Not sure it's going to last much longer than 1.5 days, to be honest!

I genuinely had a bad vibe that if I switched off the radio in living room to go to kitchen 5 metres away to switch the one in there on, Stokes would go within that one minute of his coming on!

I thought you being out all day yesterday might mean we could no longer blame you for everything!

Bet our former head groundsman Mr Ferguson would have done a better job preparing the pitch too - one wit on the Beeb website said of Bethell’s dismissal yesterday “is that the first below sea level ball to be bowled in Test cricket history?”

It's been a shocker of a strip. You can bet if Headingley or similar had produced that, it wouldn't see a test match for another decade. Still, 5 wickets from victory.

That was inexplicable. I don't care if the pitch wasn't perfect - we were all sat there wondering why not.

| The cricket is going well... (n/t) on 13:19 - Jun 5 by stonojnr | Not really, he's always had the talent, thats why he got picked in the first place all those years back It was the application of the talent, the consistency, the fitness during a match let alone a whole series, his bowling speeds always dropped after the first spellnd especially in less bowling friendly conditions that let him down and his seeming unwillingness to do anything about it, he was given chances, was given the support but thats why he got dropped Its great he's got a 5 for, on the honours board at Lords, every cricketers dream. Let's see how he does the rest of this test summer. And if he has finally cracked it we can say not that those selectors got it wrong but lament a wasted talent instead, he's 32, 33 in December, probably the home Ashes series could be the last he plays as he won't get to 29/30 down under. |
Out of the second test, real shame.
