These people Vance, Hegseth etc seem to me as though they have sold their souls to power rather than being inherently bad people. I think I've seen quotes from them on issues from a few years ago that are 180 degrees different to what they say now and are just saying these things as part of the MAGA machine. A bit like Medvedev in Russia who was comparatively moderate as President but regularly threatens hell and fury in his new position on the security council.
