Not a bad idea...but I'm not sure he would want to.

I really, really like SGS. He’d certainly build on the community connections.

But I’m not sure of his club management style.

Please no, after some of the better football that has been played it would be horrific to go 10 steps backwards

I'm a big Southgate fan but think his skillset was much better suited to international management.

Exactly this. He's far more interested in the psychological dynamics of an International team than the week to week tactical nuance of PL football.

better win percentage than bobby at england.

i'm quite happy with finishing second this year (as i was last year and in every one of mckenna's promotions!)

Agree, unless he had a top team around him to cover more of that. People can point to his pragmatism but that would suit us this season.

just finished watching dear england, and am therefore convinced that he spends his time morosely staring in to space as if he might have left the gas on and banging on and on about that bloody penalty.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I hear this, and do agree, but does SGS football give more chance of survival in the PL?

Didn’t tear it up as a club manager. No thanks

Noooo!! Can't get past his England teams being bereft of ideas when things were not going their way (as will be the case with us this season). Unable or unwilling to change things when it's needed.

I like the man, and there is a place for him in football management. However, we need pragmatism and versatility, and that is something he distinctly lacks.
