Can't imagine an operation would stand in the way if he was our main man*. Assuming its a couple of week jobby, and not more severe.

Yeah, just read it. Sounds unlikely AND he needs an op, rather than unlikely because he needs an op.

I had a knee op last month and can advise first hand he ain't managing himself for a good while never mind a PL football team.

Pretty gutting as outside of Thomas Frank (which won't happen), that is the only name mentioned that has really appealed.

Certainly one with an excitement factor. Not saying he'd prove the best choice, but compared with a Gary O'Neil he's certainly one that would whet my appetite for the season more over the coming weeks. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Brian Barry Murphy it is then with his Man City background.

I don’t think it’s major stuff 4 days max in hospital, 2-4 weeks before light duties at work.

If Barry / Cochrane or Knudsen were the preferred choice , I would rather we worked around a slight delay , rather than go down the Edwards , Dyche , O'Neill route just because they were available because of being sacked . Waiting a few weeks to get the right man must be the best way , nothing to say we can't speak to them even if they are not here in person .

It's not a slight delay though really. It could be over a month. We haven't got that sort of time. We need to recruit a dozen or so players and to start preparing for the season. We need someone fully focused on us this summer, not someone otherwise engaged.

Realistically, could Barry make it work if he really wanted to? He’s obviously coaching England but could he also be reviewing options from the recruitment team and having discussions with the backroom staff during his downtime? *If* England got to the final (and it’s a big if in my opinion) then he’d only have 4 weeks or so with the players before the first game which wouldn’t be great but I think I agree with the above, if he’s the right person then we might be better waiting rather than having the second choice just because they’re available now

Agreed. Concerned we will appoint someone with limited experience. Fine for League One but PL?

Knutsen has no experience either. Scandi leagues and a few wins in Europe isn’t any preparation for the slog that is the Premiership week in week out.

Keyhole is most likely, maybe even only a few days and short rehab, longer physio etc .., but unless we were planning to make him our number 9, it should likely have zero impact. It’s just the short term logistics, which as you point out, can be easily resolved. Ashton needs to fly out with a bag of grapes and get it done.
