Cringey and forced celebrating, no?

Not proper imperial pints anyway.

Not everything is bigger in the U.S.A

Yes for some it's a rite of passage to stand in a ' fan zone' sing crap songs and throw expensive beer about

Awful isn’t it. To think certain quarters would like alcohol reintroduced during games at Portman Road. Would cause no end of trouble.

The funniest version of that was watching the Euro 96 Germany game. I was in a totally full pub in Putney where the game was being shown. Shearer scored quickly and the beer literally hit the ceiling. It was like it was raining.

Pity the monitor projecting the game onto a screen was on the ceiling. Bang! That was the end of that. The pub emptied in under a minute and the landlord wept.

My mate’s flat was only 10 minutes trot plus a few minutes to load up at an off licence, so we were fine. The pub owners weren’t.

I lived in Zurich in the early 90’s and gathered in a local bar with other exiled English folk to watch a Euro 92 England game. I took a couple of Swiss friends with me, one of whom was nervous about what to expect from a room full of English blokes and a heady mix of beer and football.

Lineker scored and the place went berserk and instantaneously the police burst in both doors wielding sticks. It was utter chaos, complete bedlam. It turned out that it was a carefully and preplanned drugs raid that they had managed to execute at the exact moment of Lineker’s goal.

They kept us inside for several hours and made quite a few arrests as I recall. It was partly hilarious and partly terrifying. Amazingly the TV stayed on throughout. My nervous Swiss associate never forgave me.

Would you throw 8 pound coins in the air?

No because £8 coins don’t exist

Has it always been a thing or did it start in 2018?

Seems to be quite performative, places like the box park literally film it and plaster it all over the internet afterwards.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Would you throw 8 pound coins in the air?

No, that would hurt. Alcohol has long been wasted in celebration, and at far greater cost. Eg Champagne.

Would I spend money to have fun? Yes

Pointless cringeworthy male bravado when in large groups, showing off to each other, not the brightest sparks are they?

As if it is male bravado. I've taken my wife to England games where there is this going on and she loves it and joins in. She is a girly girl, who you'd expect to have no interest in this sort of thing. But the atmosphere, the occasion, and beer throwing is fun. Who cares if it is over exuberant.

My step sister joined us for a game too and found it hilarious. She doesn't even like football. She just wanted to experience it with us.

You are projecting, and I think it says more about you than those who want to enjoy it in that way.

Little care for those in the crowd who don't want to be soaked in beer, childish antics.

When I went to watch DC United many years ago, they had a designated ‘beer shower’ area in the stand. Great idea to increase your bar sales.

Those trashy beach clubs in trendy areas have spray parties. Blokes basically tipping £100/200 bottles of Champagne down the drains, insane.
