Thanks! So after a bit of searching Balgau is where Marc Keller, the Strasbourg President is from. Even after 30 years here I'm still discovering local village names. Puyi is apparently a word for Chinese emperor, so you helped me learn a new French word.

That’s good then. I couldnt be bothered to translate anything else from their forum. I’d have a few hundred downvotes if I did. But some interesting comments on there. I think Gary O’Neil needs a marmite meme.

Good question. The names that immediately come to mind are goalkeeper Mike Penders, left midfielder Diego Moreira and striker Joaquín Panichelli.

Penders (likely heading to Chelsea) is a fantastic shot stopper but his distribution is heart in the mouth stuff at times and he tends to forget his primary role is in goal and not as an outfield player. Strasbourg seems to be a good goalkeeping academy as Sels at Forest and Petrovic at Bournemouth both came through Strasbourg

Moreira is a player I really like. Fast, talented and passionate. I think he's solid and fast enough for the Premier League. Some great ball skills.

Panichelli is out injured with an ACL injury, but even though he missed the last couple of months was still voted player of the season. He's big and strong can make his presence felt in the box.

Barco appears to be off to Chelsea but not sure how well he'll do. Godo was great in the second half of the season.

As long as we don't sign defender Lucas Høgsberg... he's absolutely terrible.

Interesting to read.

It looks like Nick Pope will become our new goalkeeper.

I don't know much about Panichelli but with his current ACL injury, he will be ruled out for the majority of the upcoming season. I didn't realise it was also his second ACL injury in recent times - how unfortunate as his goalscoring record looks good.

I have seen a little bit of Diego Moreira, but not enough to have an opinion on him. I see he is in the World Cup squad for Belgium, but yet to feature. I'll keep an eye out for him if he gets on for Belgium.

Two names (three including Enciso) that stood out to me were Andrew Omobamidele and Samir El Mourabet.

Omobamidele does have PL experience, but perhaps not necessarily in a position we will target.

El Mourabet looks like a good prospect. I'm not sure if he has the athleticism for the PL, but he's not afraid to put a foot in, looks fairly combative in the midfield with a nice range of passing. Only 20, has featured for Morocco in the WC. He could be someone we buy, has a good season, and make a decent profit on.

Poll: If selling Jackson meant getting in a wide man, would you be happy with Garbutt?

Yes I can't see Panichelli being back anytime soon, but he was a great buy.

Omobamidele had a good run of games in the second half of the season and teamed up well with Doukouré.

El Mourabet is great. He's local, very humble/shy and scored a blinder at home against Nice in the League. Technically very good from his time with the French Futsal team. Not sure how he'd be in the Premier League though from a strength perspective.

I like Enciso. He gets some stick for being too individualistic from the crowd, but he has moments of brilliance.

Friendly vs Vallecano this pre season will be interesting then

Rayo's manager just went to Villarreal, so they'll be as transitional as we are.

How's Nanasi getting on? He's one I saw mentioned here a while back I think from one of our Swedish-based fans when Nanasi was at Malmo.

I feel like Omobamidele would be someone we would identify if we were looking to recruit in that position.

El Mourabet looks like he has a good physical profile but lacks the athleticism - perhaps a little easy to play around if the ball is moved quickly. In a better side with more possession, his play style would stand out more.

I liked Enciso when he was here on loan. You could see he has the talent. At times he would frustrate by retaining the ball for too long, but on the other hand, he would produce something from nothing, like the goal away at Everton. I do think we need that type of player in our team though.

For some history. Puyi was the last Emperor of China, and after his abdication he was made the ruler of Manchukuo, a Japanese Vassal state in North Eastern China. I imagine he (Strasbourg President) is Puyi because he's emperor in name only and is a puppet of Blue Co.

I'd love to know what the original French version of this was as I have no idea who or what Puyi de Balgau is???

I'm a Strasbourg season ticket holder and the general feeling is anger at BlueCo and disappointment with Marc Keller, the club president. The Kop was already on strike the first 15 minutes of each game last year and this just makes the relationship between the club and the supporters even worse.

We had some amazing games under O'Neil, especially the 4-0 win against Mainz in the Conference League 1/4 final, but we had some shockers too. We were awful in both legs against Rayo Vallecano (who were a very crafty team). We were also awful in the French Cup semi-final against Nice, a home game we really should have won.

He was unlucky with injuries to Panichelli, Emegha, Moreira, Doué and others and at the end of the season said he wanted to build a squad with his choice of players, knowing that half the team will probably head over to Chelsea.

Many of the supporters struggle to accept how someone who only a few weeks ago was saying how much he loved the club, loved the region, the food and wanted to build his own squad left at the first chance.

Not sure I'll be wearing my Town shirts often at the Meinau next season!

Thanks, that's very insightful, the other benefit we might have with GON, is not just the Strasbourg players he could look at, he's had 6 months watching every team, so he would've seen others that could fit the bill.

Moreira, Enciso and Godo are a talented trio aren't they?

Doue I think will get a really good move, probably out of reach for us. Penders is already at Chelsea, he was only on loan at Strasbourg.

Other names I can link to Strasbourg, Emegha and Bakwa, although possible Emegha will stay at Chelsea next season.

Doué is a talent for sure. I forgot that Penders was on loan, but then again it's hard to keep up with all the back and forth between Chelsea and Racing... 🤣

Emegha has already signed for Chelsea and posted a picture wearing a Chelsea shirt last year. The Ultras weren't too happy about that.

Bakwa went to Forest last September.

To answer the question above about Nanasi. He had a decent run in to end of the season and was called up to the Swedish team but didn't make it into the final squad.

We do have a pretty talented team, the frustration is that you just know they're not going to stay long.

At one point we were the second youngest line up in Europe last season, with an average age of 21.45 years! Ben Chilwell looked like he was someone's Dad! Would be amazing to see that team stay together, but it's not going to happen.

I knew Emegha had gone to Chelsea, I remember him being in trouble at Strabourg earlier in the season, he was removed from the squad for a game wasn't he?

Don't know whether he will stay at Chelsea or go out on loan, and Bakwa never settled at Forest, seemingly couldn't get a run ahead of Hutchinson.

Was interested to know what your thoughts were on them from their time at Strabourg, whether we would look at either of them, I thought I remembered Bakwa being touted as real talent.

Yes Emegha was suspended for failing to respect the club's internal code of conduct and values after comments in the press and social media. On the pitch Emegha was awesome when he was fit. Always a danger, provocative, always able to find space. I'm sad to see him go as he was an exciting player to watch and got the non-Kop crowd going when he was on the ball.

Bakwa had a great 24/25 season and part of the reason we qualified for Europe. From memory he combined well with Andrey Santos (Santos was fantastic for us). He started the first 3 games of the season and we were sad to see him leave. We'd welcome him back.

Interesting your point about Bakwa settling in at Forest. Nuno Da Costa had a similar issue a few years before. Wonderful for us, but never made it at Forest.

I'm curious if Mamadou Sarr will stay with Chelsea or be loaned/sold back to us. Rosenior poached him when he left for Chelsea and that had a big impact on our defence. It meant less competition for places and allowed Høgsberg to play more games. I don't like criticising players and he's still very young, but Høgsberg is hopeless.
