Squirrels and Birds. 04:33 - Jun 29 with 3216 viewsBenters

I have been for years now feeding the wildlife in my garden,I have bird tables and feeders hanging from trees.I give them different foods during the day.

The Squirrels enjoy the nuts I have a family of those,i buy fat slabs and seed for the birds, and when I have my morning fruit smoothie, the shredded material goes in a little pot on the bird table.

I also have four bird baths, with small bowls of water placed on the ground for the Hedgehogs.

My garden resembles old mateys from ‘Small Prophets’.

Isn’t nature wonderful.

How wonderful, looking after Nature in ones garden gives so much joy.
We have 9 species of birds feeding and drinking, especially during this hot dry spell. And bathing in our tiny pond!

Following a traumatic bike accident, crushed by a car, Mother Nature, the garden, the birds have been a great therapy.

Don’t feed the birds between May and September. It spreads a parasite in the warmer weather. I know you’re not particularly a fan of egg-head communists giving you advice but read this; https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

I have heard that before but fat slabs are ok and my seed feeders are perfectly clean,I also wash my bird baths every other day.

Of course some of the birds eat the nuts, but they are clean to.

Oh definitely 100%.

Same as me I couldn’t go for a walk for a little while due to a health reason,I went out Saturday and walked two miles across beautiful fields and lanes.

I did the same this morning but I doubled the distance,if I can’t get out I go all depressed.

That’s why in the winter months I wear full wet weather gear,if I only go out for two hours a day it makes you feel wonderful, and it’s actually really nice walking in the bad weather.

Stay strong buh💪

Being out an about in nature is priceless buh. Especially in the winter, like yer say, just get yer weather gear on and have a wander around.

By the way I see your garden full of birds and squirrels and raise you, foxes, badgers and pinemartins

Squirrels are vermin, wrecked my veg patch and lawn.

Worse than rats IMO.

we've currently got glow worms in the garden.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Definitely no Golden Eagle. Must be some sight?

Grey herons occasionally on the lake, impressive creatures. Seen one 2 weeks ago on the Sunday afternoon just casually mooching around in the shallows

In both cases I think they were a wee bit lost, the young Golden Eagle clumsily trying to get through the trees had me wondering if a crofter had just taken a pot shot at it, the heron I guess was just taking a rest (river only a hundred yards or so away) but it was putting enough weight on the branch of a cherry tree to make it sag.

Had a grey heron in my garden a month or so, stayed for lunch. My pond was decimated, lost around 20 carp/orf.

Had to stop feeding the birds in our garden (winter only), it brought an influx of rats from the farm next door which we had to get the council in to deal with :(

Lawns are stupid things. I do like veg patches though. Not super keen on squirrels, but I like beavers and such.

Yeah I’m not a fan of lawns if it was up to me I wouldn’t have any grass whatsoever.Just loads of plants everywhere.

Gradually over the years I have increased the numbers of pots and tubs etc so I’m gradually getting rid of it.

All I’d like is enough room to put a few benches etc with different view points of my garden.

Was lucky enough to see one on the high moor (1,000' up) next to my old house in N. Yorkshire about 20 years ago - confirmed sighting, was also seen at a reservoir a couple of miles further north, it was a juvenile apparently. Magnificent indeed.
