Although it sounds like a lot of money and it is in 'real life', its nothing in the context of the premier league. Especially when you're starting from such a low base and adding it to a squad that largely came up from L1. 10th highest in the league it might've been, but there's a big difference between an Everton adding 3 or 4 x £30m players to what they have and us looking to improve on Luongo, Harness and Harry Clarke.
A lot of our opponents spent that on a couple of players. Hopefully the bar is a little higher now, we're not flush with a whole load of demonstrably PL quality players but in Greaves, O'Shea, Matusiwa, Philogene, Clarke we've at least retained most of those we've signed, made a profit on a Omari and Delap, and will move on a few of those that haven't worked for whatever reason (Muric / Szmodics / Ogbene).
Need to go again with another £150m across 7 or 8 big signings now to kick on another level and try to close that gap to the Palace and Fulham's of the world. |  | | |

Basically, we are nearly £100 million away from being a mid-table side in terms of annual wage spend! Thats is in spite of spending £115 mill on transfers!
We were the lowest spenders on wages by £39 million for the season! That is probably a bit of an eye opener in terms of how we performed in comparison to more of the established sides.
We have a large amount of work to do to catch up but hopefully having been there before, we will have more of a platform to start from. |  | | |

The ownership section is a bit all over the place as well. ORG are part of Portman Holdings along with Clara Vista and the Three Lions fund (as opposed to the Three Lions individually), broadly equal, although with the Three Lions fund the largest of the three. That owns 40-something and a controlling interest, Bright Path 40-something and smaller shareholders, such as the Three Lions individually and Ed S the rest. |  | | |

That team of ‘scrubbers’ finished above Leeds who have established themselves at this level, spending roughly what we did!!
Why don’t you address the elephant in the room.
We spent a huge amount, and didn’t catch up the premier league.
Out legacy side maybe didn’t quite have the quality this group has, but there isn’t £140 million (net) and that group would beat this side 9/10, more together and a better team.
Sick and tired of people making excuses for what’s been woeful recruitment (relative to our competitors both at this level and in the championship).
Leeds aren’t the only side to fail past us since we had resources, Sunderland went from well behind our project, to maybe three levels above us in just one window.
It can be done. But not by Mark.
Let’s have it straight. Stop the nonsense of ‘we were just a tin pot league one club’ Morsy, Walton, Chaplin, they were never league one, and dropped levels only for Paul Cook, Hirst and Massimo had many options higher up too.
And just ONE league one player played in our 22 point season (Leif).
I get the love for McKenna - obviously, but he wasn’t very good at recruitment depending on how much he was involved, and Mark even worse, there’s no escaping we spent money VERY badly, mostly because we’re pretty keen to move a lot of those players on, the ones still here like Ogbenne, Sammie WE don’t think we recruited well at all.

And for context, Man City just spent more than that on one player and our relegation rivals Spurs have bought a ‘good’ midfielder from West Ham for £85m today.

LOL you do like to bend the facts to fit your narrative. Sunderland did very well, yes (but I predict they will struggle next season - their underlying metrics were poor), however they did not spend ‘roughly what we did’. They spent 40% more on signings, which in most people’s world is materially a massive difference.

Huh!!! Morsy? Chaplin? Luongo? Burns? Woolfy? Walton? Burgess? Hirst? Broadhead? All got good minutes in the PL, unless I was dreaming. There were others too, who put in a few appearances before squad changes, like Harry, Ali and the fridge. | | | |
