I panicked and bed wetted regards our midfield last Premier league season and am in real danger of doing it again !

The whole team isn’t anywhere near a team that would survive this upcoming season. Just hope we get some real quality in before the season begins.

Just out of curiosity at what point is it acceptable to express concern over the current state of our side?

7 weeks til the season -49 days and we need a few through the doors but the right players which isnt easy to do so if we don't do much next 2/3 weeks is it then time to worry?

I mean if the season started in a week I would be bed wetting about our Goalkeeper, defenders, Midfielders and attackers.

Luckily there is a transfer window open.

We have had a manager for about a week, I personally think it's too early to be expressing concern. He will be evaluating the squad and making decisions on where to strengthen.

Would you prefer we just bought people without doing that?

Not sure why you've mentioned 2/3 weeks time, that is not what the OP said, why don't we re-evaluate that in 2/3 weeks time?

12th and 13th July by Cheltenham_Blue 3 Jul 19:00
Seems to be the date over the last two seasons when we make our first signing who isn’t on a free or who Chelsea don’t want out of the door in the last financial year.

So if no one is in the door by the 20th that’s the time to actually worry.

Fair enough but worth remembering that last Premier league season we failed badly and midfield was the biggest problem for me and we also seem to struggle , since Delap , to attract a striker that has been badly needed .

Not saying we need to panic or any concern yet …

… but the same people who say there is loads of time, are the same people who last season then blamed poor results on the team needing time to gel as a result of leaving signings far too late. Even KM admitted we left it too late.

There is a balance and with seven weeks to kick off, you’d think we need to start signing players sooner rather than later.

I guess we should withdraw our place from the PL then and offer it to the next in line.

Did KM say ‘we left it too late’? I must have missed that. That implies negligence by those doing the recruitment.

Transfers involve buyers, sellers, agents, players, managers, families etc etc and plenty of people have no idea where Suffolk is let alone want to come here. It’s clearly not easy unless you have unlimited money to whom the rules don’t apply like the Sky Six.

I’d rather the club was patient and did its best to sign the right people rather than be stampeded / mugged off by agents and clubs offloading trouble, sicknotes and deadwood.

The last thing we need is another Phillips situation.

To be honest, I don't see what the point of your post was to begin with.

You're asking when we can worry whilst seemingly not being that worried because you want the right players through the door.

It's all a bit odd. Why not wait 2/3 weeks then ask the question at the relevant time?

It’s still early. Pre-season 24/25 Omari was announced on 30th June, Ben Johnson early July and then nothing until mid-July. The season kicked off a week earlier than it is this year too.

I think alot depends on how much of the current squad O'neil believes can start in the prem and do a prem standard job.

If its a big chunk with a few additions. It matters not if we wait until a few weeks.

If we are to see lets say 8/9 new starters. Ideally you want them in before we go to spain if we can so they have a full pre season under our new manager.

I think we all know our midfield needs signings as we do up front. Altho theres no order to which signings happen. Id love to see those positions done first.

I dont believe km ever said we left it to late

He only mentioned how tough it was with turnover of squad

I suppose thats quite normal.but perhaps the lateness of signing or lateness of sales made it more of a pain than it would if signings we in and players were out early.

Not quite first week july early. But maybe the next 2 weeks it would for a manager know at least who wont be staying.

We played this game last season and the season before. Everyone got called bed wetters and in actual fact they turned out to be right, because we were so late getting people in that in both cases it took forever to mould the team. We can’t afford for that to happen this season again. If Ashton was right and we were well down the road on signings I’d start to expect to see some in the next couple of weeks. Or was he bull sh!ting again ?

I'm pretty sure he did but I think it's been taken out of context to be fair as think from memory he said ideally we should have acted earlier. Think it was after a home match on Radio Suffolk. But this is from memory only .

I don’t think he did either FB. I think a direct criticism like that is something I’d have remembered and would certainly have made big news.

Of course not signing players until the back end of the transfer window hurt us, but it was not necessarily a situation of our making or something we wanted, unless others know different. Our poor start to the season reflects that. If there is info out there that Ashton spent his time on the sun bed, swapping jokes with Nigel and rummaging through the beard trimmer of the year brochure, let’s hear it. Same with whoever actually does the recruitment. Ive no idea how it works tbh, but it’s a long way from Ron Gray and a sheepskin coat.

The players you want have to be out there, available at the time you want them and only the big clubs can dictate that. Those down the food chain have to wait their turn and it seems to me that the closer you are to the top table, the harder that is.

We're not deliberately leaving things late. They get done when they get done, and if you want quality it's hard and takes time. We could go early and get dross, if some of you'd prefer.

You're awfully cocky for someone who's team were getting the open top bus out for finishing 9th last season.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
