B!tchy……..yep, we got promoted, did we ever gel really ? I don’t think we did nowhere near like we had previously. And yes, I did think his time was up. Still do in all honesty.

We finished the season in second place with the second best goal difference, third highest goals scored, second fewest conceded and 19 points clear of your boys. I think that does rather suggest we did, Budgers.

I mean, that just shows how wrong you are. The manager you wanted gone won promotion. Nothing more needs to be said, really.

Hang fire, In a minute he'll tell you that the team, (that didn't gel), won promotion 'in-spite' of McKenna, not because of.

Just out of curiosity at what point is it acceptable to express concern over the current state of our side?

7 weeks til the season -49 days and we need a few through the doors but the right players which isnt easy to do so if we don't do much next 2/3 weeks is it then time to worry?

Poor old Budgieoutlook, must be gutting for them to see us kicking on and leaving their boys in the dust.

I dont believe km ever said we left it to late

He only mentioned how tough it was with turnover of squad

I suppose thats quite normal.but perhaps the lateness of signing or lateness of sales made it more of a pain than it would if signings we in and players were out early.

Not quite first week july early. But maybe the next 2 weeks it would for a manager know at least who wont be staying.

I always thought KM made his frustration at the lack of recruitment prior to the start of the season very clear. Never directly called out the club but he didn’t hide his frustrations.

Watch the early Prem pressers and the ones from this year and he repeatedly mentioned the squad not being where he wanted it to be. We went in to those early Prem games with Al Hamadi as our back up number 9.

He has gone, we move on. He struggled badly in the Prem last time around and even with all the resources he had this last season in the championship the team made a real trudge over the line. Time to take the rose tinted glasses off and look at a bit of reality. I think his time was up here, many will disagree but he obviously believes that to. He did well,Im not knocking him for turning the club around but then he had a hell of a lot of resources at his disposal. Previous managers like Big Mick would have loved a quarter of what he had money wise to spend.

I think it was about the overall summer window and how it played out i dont disagree he wouldnt have beem frustrated at certain signings not being made but i dont think was specific to not having signings in early.

Looked at sunderland transfers earlier. They signed like we have a loanee by the his ppint. Someone on tomorrows date and them the rest from mid july. One of thsir nest signings was on deadline day.

As much as id love to start seeing people. I guess as long as they keeo us up it doesnt matter when they are made. It just makes it hard to be patient whilst it happens lol.

The context of struggling in the Prem is, of course, that we won back-to-back promotions and thus found ourselves there with players who played in League 1. We got promoted too soon in that regard, and made a rod for our own backs.

3 promotions in 4 seasons. There's nothing rose tinted about it, it's extraordinary and it's reality. If you wanted more than that, after 20 years of nothingness, then you wanted the moon on a stick.

There's nothing to suggest he thinks his time was up here because he thought he wasn't good enough. You've crowbarred that in to help your flagging argument.

He achieved the objective of promotion (again) when you wanted him sacked. Just hold your hands up and admit that call was wrong. You just look silly otherwise.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It was not a trudge over the line. It was finishing second with more points than all bar Coventry.

The team took time to come together, just as McKenna’s first team did. By the end of the season it was still improving and got the job done, at times in devastating fashion. The last 10/15 mins against Southampton could not have been done by the team two years ago. I’d argue the way they dealt with QPR in the final game was extraordinary too.

Teams played against us in much the same way at a lower level as weaker teams in the WC have played. France apart, none of the better teams have found it easy.

McKenna had to pick up from a team that’d been smashed and essentially form a new one. Not all the players he brought in proved a storming success, but sufficient were leaving us with a better squad than two years ago.

KM had to fight against negativity and people wanting him out like yourself, distraction like the Farage’s nonsense and a joke of a fixture list that had them playing a lot of games in a short space of time, most of them away. And he succeeded. That’s not rose tinted glasses - the table never lies.

As for waving Mick around, with money he got Wolves and Sunderland relegated. There’s no reason to suggest he’d have succeeded in the Premier League with us. Mick did a good job here but let’s not look at his time ‘through rose tinted glasses’.

Mick did well with an asset-sweater Evans, with the first team but had no interest in the rest of the club. McKenna has helped rebuild the club in addition to three promotions in four years.

Im not saying we need players in now but I always thought Km was pretty transparent with what he was saying.

As you say it is inevitable that the transfers continue in to the start of the season. If we can get to that Sunderland game with id say at least 4 new outfield starters (think the new keeper gets done soon), throughout the spine of the team that would be ok and then you can add around that.

There’s a difference between what you want/would like but sometimes don’t get. It’s the way of things. Perversely I think we do need players in now. But they have to be the right players and if that takes time, so be it. We are where we are in the Premier League pecking order and we all know how agents operate.

McKenna is not a stupid man and will have known that in the last couple of seasons. Recruitment timings were disappointing and a real handicap, but I doubt it was for the want of trying on the part of the club. Maybe Joe or somebody more in the know than me can clarify.

You are right about the spine of the team. If we can improve the keeper position, I’m ok with the CHs. It’s the spine in front of Matisuwa that will determine how we do. Trouble is, I don’t think you can prioritise which players you get in first. It’s a question of filling all the spots when you can.

This window is very interesting.

No more excuses of being in the prem to quick. New elite level training ground.

If we find ourselves short again this summer the owners will need to look at those above the manager. Not one specific person but overall.

But. Lets see how we get on.

I think its clear its not through the want of trying, I have 0 doubt the club work tirelessly to get players in.

We will spend on the defence, Centre back and a right back will come in. Furlong I can see playing a Conor Townsend role, there for when we need him and wont let anyone down. Greaves will have his place be that as the back up left sided centre half or someone who would have a good skillset in a back 3 but we go and get a physically dominant centre half, Aleksandro who was linked (sort of) that sort of profile.
