Regarding the Spanish Civil War, this is a lovely version of a song written by Euan MacColl.
It tells the story of a shipyard worker from the Clyde who goes to fight with the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, and is killed at Gandesa.

Absolutely beautiful piece isn't it, haunting - first heard it in mid-teens when owners* of a posh pad I was working & living in for Xmas/New Year put it on their even posher sound system - stopped me in my tracks, and have never tired of it since.
*He was editor of a Sunday nationals magazine, my duties included waiting on Auberon Waugh at one meal - a very unpleasant, rude man (for that duration anyway).
