Noticed that his appearance numbers are on the low side.

Is this down to injury record, or not being first choice.

Good signing I think, just wondered if he has fitness issues?

Just fell out of favour I think. It seems like he was a regular at West Ham and Fulham for his first two seasons before being slowly phased out at both clubs.

General consensus is he’s not very good on the ball so he’s probably been phased out at both clubs in favour of more progressive defenders.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

Fulham fans are largely not happy about this. Seems like he was playing very well end of last season. Excellent defender and will be a brilliant addition.

Was about to post similar, there must be others like him who are good enough but not getting the game time for whatever reason.

Not first choice. I suppose they’re the type we’ve got the best chance of getting. No regular is going to leave an established club to come to us.

A West Ham fan at the time said he just didn't want to stay with them. Remember Man United being interested one summer when he was at West Ham

Wasnt suggesting they would, just keen to establish which it was.

Yes, was a while ago, but clearly very highly rated at one point.

Anderson in front of him, more ball playing but not necessarily a better defender

Last season...missed 7 matches through injury (otherwise 8 starts, 5 sub appearances, 12 matches unused sub) Started all bar one of the cup games.

Anderson is twice as good on the ball, positionally superb too, and also enjoys defending. I don’t think many read the game better.

A few more ahead of him at Fulham too though - does he improve us, yes, a lot too, is he as good as the clappers say about every signing, obviously not. Not even close. Bizarre how people make out signings are Messi that they’ve never seen kick a ball, you’d think they’d learn, after the last two
Dozen.

A good addition, has the experience we crave. It’s a step up from
Fats who’s ’got top flight experience’ - yes 11 games in a relegated side. About zero percent instructive of quality.

This is a step forwards for us in terms of profile. That’s the important thing, they don’t want him though, he hasn’t been first choice for a long while now.

Hopefully that makes him hungry to prove a point. Not easy to get players who are good enough, not past it, and not getting game time.

Think the observation he’s not good enough on the ball for Silva is about right, for us, it’s about staying in the league, style is very much a future problem.

He can defend. Suits us 100%. Should add in both boxes at set pieces. An area we’d get slaughtered at, at this level, we struggled in the EFL, exactly what we need. Hopefully (many) more to follow.

Europe it is, I might become a happy clapper myself.

I wasn’t suggesting that you were suggesting. I’m just extrapolating for my own understanding as much as anything.

I think this is probably what we need. We were desperately short of top level experience last time and this is a step in the right direction. Although I thought similar about Johnson and he was a bit underwhelming.

Carried that on into the World Cup - excellent goal against the Netherlands too.

What I like about the way he defends is that when strikers try to pin him, he seems to be able to muscle them off the ball without risking conceding a foul, and when they try to run at him, he seems to have telescopic legs.

Agree he would be a good signing if we can get this over the line

'Phased out' is fine for us , at the moment. We've done exactly the same with Wolfie, Rappers, Burgess, etc, etc. Key players in getting us up, but needed to be phased out if we were to go higher.

So I dont mind taking players that are good enough to keep a team in the Prem, but maybe not good enough for a team pushing for even better things.

Last time we signed as good as we coukd from the championship - we soon found out it wasnt enough. This time we're signing players who have decent prem records. Not the best, but much better (on paper!) than before.

On the flip side, he probably has almost as many Pl starts and minutes than our whole squad combined
