Matchday prices released (and frozen) 17:53 - Jul 24 with 2275 viewsZx1988

Same setup and prices as last season, which is a little surprising.

A- and B-Grade system, with the most expensive non-premium tickets being in the middle of the Pioneer, at £48 for a Grade-A game.

The cheapest is £28 for a Grade-B game in the lower Pioneer.

An interesting observation, now we know that prices have been frozen...

The value of a S/T has really been eroded by the S/T increase, and the matchday price freeze.

Last season my ticket cost me about £24 a game, with the equivalent matchday ticket costing a minimum of £38 - a guaranteed saving of £14 a game, or £322 over the season.

This season my S/T costs just over £33 a game, with the minimum matchday price staying the same. As a result, the guaranteed saving drops to £5 a game, or £95 over the season.

Very generous of the club to freeze a price which has gone up c65% in 5 years, based on pricing for SBRL (and with the current price now needing a membership on top)

Agree that I am still mildly surprised though!

Or, alternatively prices increased by 40% compared to 10 years ago.

In that 10 years, prices have dropped some years, and often been held. Due to the state of the club during much of that time, ticket prices had steadily fallen behind where most clubs were. With success there is an inevitable realignment. Our ticket prices are way below most of our peers, both PL and Championship.

Sure, some of the recent price rises look high, but that’s only because we’ve been so out of sync with other club prices.

IMO the biggest benefit of a season ticket right now is that you’re guaranteed a seat for every game. There are plenty of people who would pay a premium for that!

Excellent post.

Dismayed at the price hikes and the fact that once again season ticket holders are treated poorly. It should be worth more than £95 over a season. Where is the reward for loyalty? Especially for the 8000 or so of us who were still going during all of the thin championship gruel, league one plummet and pandemic seasons.

As someone else has said - it guarantees you a seat. As much as I'd love to go to a few games this season theres absolutely no chance of it happening as I'm not an ST holder.

Hmmmmmmm.

The old way was that committing to a season ticket was recognised with bigger discount. As zx1988's post shows.

There's something beyond just purchasing the seat as a ST holder. It's commitment and loyalty.

To me, it feels as if it's just another small but significant move against ST holders which is the direction of travel in football as a whole.

I sit in middle tier West and pay around £30 per game to watch PL football. That is ridiculously cheap compared to other PL clubs.

I'm Sir Bobby upper and similar. It is I suppose but even so. I think the price hikes have been pretty poor.

It's more about what it signals to ST holders. But I think now they can sell out easily they don't have to worry I suppose. I just hope they remember who was there when club was desperate for income during COVID and lean years before that.

40% over 3 years is equivalent to 3.43% annual increases. ***

And you think that is poor? I’d say that’s phenomenal value given where we’ve been compared to where we are now.

That’s based on matchday prices - I’ve not done the exact calculation for season tickets, but it’s going to be similar.

Edit : corrected typo - comparison was over 10 years, not 3

” There's something beyond just purchasing the seat as a ST holder. It's commitment and loyalty.”

There are many genuine reasons why at certain times during their lives someone might not be able to have a season ticket. To suggest its lack of commitment and loyalty is incredibly disrespectful for those fans who just don’t have the option.

I didn't suggest anything of the sort!

But it IS commitment and loyalty. All of us who sat through Evans dark days and what followed were loyal. There weren't too many sell outs then.

They didn't need to raise prices but they have to fit in with business model. I get it. But the ST holders kept the club going so it was there for them to buy.

Lower tier SBRL tickets were £30 3 years ago, 3.43% annual increases on that would see them at just over £33 today

Ok, maybe I misunderstood your intent. You don’t have to be season ticket holder to be committed and loyal though. A lot of posters often suggest everyone who didn’t have a season ticket through the dark years weren’t loyal, and if they can’t get one now, don’t deserve one. It’s a simplistic view that ignores the reality of the plethora of possible reasons

Compound interest. Your maths is way out.

A 3.43% every year for 10 years is a 40% increase.

Sounds very fair to me in respect to the size of discount, especially now we have the resale platform when unable to go. Non-ST holders will also need to spend the extra £45 in order to attend many games as we'll sell out at that stage before resales.

I'm sure the ST discount will increase again if we go backwards on the pitch.

I was using compound interest, you said over 3 years not 10

I’m not sure why you’re isolating 10 years anyway, a time when it was reported that we had one of the most expensive tickets in the country, under a different regime. I highlighted 5 years as that reflects changes since the current regime came in - during which time the annual increase has averaged c10.5%

But by all means, clap clap clap away

LOL - Darkhorse in disguise? That really is a bizarre and tiresome attempt at an insult.

Looking at it over a longer period gives a far fairer picture, rather than trying to isolate shorter term, spikey changes. As I pointed out in other posts, our pricing has been way out of kilter with our peers in recent years (since the new ownership). They're now being brought into line. As far as I'm concerned, if people don't see the value in the ticket prices, they're not a proper supporter and might as well not bother coming.

I'd rather be called a happy clapper, and support the club with my wallet at fairer prices that reflect the market than whine about it constantly.

My season ticket works out as £24 per game this season. That’s still a saving of £10 per game for Cat B and £14 for Cat A. I think that’s more than reasonable given you can pay for the season ticket via monthly interest free direct debit these days rather than the traditional pay it all up front.

Why stop at 10 years, may aswell go back 50 for all the relevance it has to pricing decisions and trajectory under the current ownership

Also curious to know exactly when our pricing was so out of kilter as looking back I can’t see where that was the case

Think the argument that anyone unhappy with these sort of rises is fairly offensive tbh. I’ve continued to pay it as I can afford to, but an increasing number of others will have been frozen out, although I guess they’re just not supporting hard enough

Have posted before my general thoughts that the obvious huge positive of the Gamechanger takeover and Ashton has been how we’ve become such a professionally well run football club, however to me there’s no denying the downside of also becoming a professionally well run commercial machine. Obviously I’d take that any day of the week over the former however that doesn’t mean blindly applauding every thing the club does

Probably worth reflecting at this point that freezing prices this year is obviously not a bad thing, so probably fair at this point to acknowledge that my OP in this thread may have been a bit overly negative (even if the cynic in me expects more Cat A games meaning a stealth increase in the per game cost)

You don't need to look far back.

25/26 : Ave season ticket price 12th in the Championship, 65% of the most expensive (Boro)
24/25 : Ave 20th out of 20, 37% of the most expensive. Even four CHAMPIONSHIP clubs were more expensive than us (Boro, ShefU, Norwich and ShefW)
23/24: 16th out of 24. 60% of the most expensive.

That's just recent seasons.
