Hi. Celtic supporter here. I was curious about what was being said by Ipswich fans, about Daizen Maeda and just thought I'd make a comment. I do think you've got a bargain and he'll prove to be a great signing for you. Perhaps part of the reason he's gone for less than I expected, is due to the fact that he was meant to join Wolfsburg last year, only for our inept board to block that at the last minute. Celtic owed a big debt to the wee man and if it wasn't for his form in the run in, we'd have lost the league. There was only a title race in Scotland last year, due to civil war occurring at Celtic, between the support and the board. The entire Celtic support love Daizen. Now, you have not bought the greatest footballer on the planet, far from it. He is a bit of an enigma. His first touch can often be poor as can his delivery from wide positions. His work-rate is phenomenal, probably the best we have ever had a Celtic and I'm a 69 year old supporter. He is a one man pressing machine and his defensive qualities are amazing, he can run non stop from the first to last minute. His finishing can be a bit erratic but in season 24-25, he hit a purple patch and scored some world class goals and had an incredible season. His best position for us was wide left although we also played him a lot as striker. He's not someone who will dribble past defenders but I think going to Ipswich (if you excuse me) might be ideal for him. I say that, as I think in a team that might not dominate the game (like we do in Scotland) I expect you will be under the cosh in some of the games this year. Playing on the break and having space to run into will suit him. He is very much a team player and has an amazing attitude (no prima donna like qualities about the wee man). He's also a very humble guy and a great family man. The mere fact that I've come onto this site, reflects that fact that most Celtic fans will take an interest in how he's doing at Ipswich. That rarely happens nowadays. I sincerely hope he and Ipswich have a great season and beyond. Sayonara Daizen.
You seem to be describing everything we loved about Connor Chaplin in his pomp fir Town..... looking forward to seeing him play and hopefully be as loved here as CC.
It's interesting isn't it - he's probably come into a weaker team than Celtic (although i'm sure we'd give you a game) but the games he plays each week will be a level up in terms of intensity - more like Champ league games he plays for you. Except it'll be every week.
I don't think anyone is expecting the rate of goals he scored in the SPL, but I have the gut feeling that he will fit our system this season like a glove. We will almost certainly play on the counter attack, perhaps even at home in the bigger games.

Having watched a lot of Daizen at Celtic, a moment that always springs to mind for me and probably encapsulates him best came during Hibs v Celtic in Dec '22. Got chatting to a Sellick fan from up across the border in a local Irish pub and eventually led onto Maeda, who moments before had just crashed a header from two, three yards out against the bar. Sitter. Consequently delivered my verdict on how I thought he was a great player but often wasteful in front of goal. Seconds later, he picked up the ball and rifled one top corner from 25 or so yards out to which the Glaswegian bloke erupted into uncontrollable laughter. Made me look a right idiot but sums him up perfectly, will be frustrating at times whilst equally capable of moments of quality, as well as being utterly relentless in his off the ball work.

I've seen him do it for Celtic v some top players and also Japan. If I were you, I wouldn't be thinking, we've got someone who'll score a barrow-load of goals. He'll get his fair share but he will set the tempo for the rest of the team. Whoever is at left back for you, will love him

If we use him properly he can be a really good signing, his pressing is hopefully a really big part of why we signed him, as you say we wont dominate possession so it will be vital. Our LWB is highly attack minded and probably not quite as strong at defensive side of the game as we'd like for a likely relegation battle so he should be a good foil there.
