Well that is far from ideal.

Poor squad management in CM was part of the undoing last time. If we reach Aug in this state that is bonkers knowing what weve known since May. It might all look very different in mid Aug but still. It also makes letting Dan Neil sign elsewhere more odd, he is not the complete answer but could have been part of it. | |

Nunez is a midfielder and fit. And I think he’s good enough to play in the Premier League. But we definitely need two more.
I can see why we didn’t precede with Morita now. He’s not going to be ready fir weeks so that would have made no sense, |  |

Bit of a strange one as we would have known since May they would be out for a while and with Dan Neil/Cajuste not rejoining, leaving us with very little in CM.
3 weeks until Sunderland and any signings you probably want them to have been here at least a couple of weeks rather than just chucking them straight in on the week of the game.
If no one was to sign next week or 10 days pre Sunderland, I do think that would be quite poor planning from the club but they haven’t given us any reason to doubt the window just yet. | | | |

If we sign Neil then we effective just bring in another player in the Nunez/Taylor/Humphreys mould that provide valuable back-up but not expected to feature heavily. We only need 1, maybe 2 players of that type. | | | |

Taylor will only be a squad player next season, despite his improvement last season.
Matusiwa is a bigger concern. We shouldn't rush him back but hard to see him starting against Sunderland. Central midfield should be our #1 priority, but more important to get the right players in than rushing in signings who won't be good enough. |  |

You have to say, this is partially caused by our failure to recruit properly midfield/10 last season. We were overly reliant on Matusiwa and he's played through injury with this being the result. | | | |
