26/27 Manchester United Away Match Sales 'Profile'

The Manchester United fixture sold out Thursday AM (10+) and is likely to remain so (though small numbers of returns, unclaimed ballot, and un-used Club retained tickets may still pop up for sale now and then).



Summary:

- The Club announced an initial allocation of 3000 tickets, the seatmap ran higher than that at 3103.

- The Club retained a total of 228 seats (Club allocation, steward use, ballot) this includes approximately 62 Ballot seats.

- There were 93 wheelchair / assistant / ambulant seats.

- A total of 2782 tickets were available for purchase for across Member Sales windows.

- All blocks were available from the first window.



Per Window Sales:

- 737 (26.49%) sold in the 30+ window.
- 769 (27.64%) sold in the 25+ window.
- 535 (19.23%) sold in the 20+ window.
- 621 (22.32%) sold in the 15+ window.
- 120 (4.31%) sold in the 10+ window.



Points of Note:

* Maximum points going into this sale was 34.

* The first away game of the new season usually sells strongly so should give a good indication of the make up of the distribution of Members across top windows.

* If I remember rightly; this is our first Away match ticketed 100% via NFC tickets (digital, probably download to a single phone only).

* NFC ticketing has seen many questions raised whether the Club will make attempts to identify cases where tickets are repeatedly moved-on (easier to track with NFC tickets), which may (difficult to substantiate) have led to a comparative downturn in higher-window sales with Members being more reluctant to move-on tickets.

Top tier sales were pretty inconsitent at the back end of last season, suggesting a lot of high pointers were picking and choosing towards the end.

Looking at Norwich Away (you'd think it'd be a high-water mark, but surrounding sales stats suggest not actually)... Max points going into that sale was 50, so the 40+ window was covering 40-50 (11pts). Making the assumption of even distribution across that 11pt range, 1395 tickets sold in the window, equating to 127 per 1pt.

Taking it back further to Derby... Max points going into the sale was 45, top window spanned 35-45 (11pts) and sold 1375, 125 per 1pt.

Taking it back further to Leicester... Max points going into the sale was 35, top window spanned 30-35 (6pts) and sold 1124, 187 per 1pt.

Average if those three samples is 146

Look at Man U, top window is spanning 30-34 (5pts). So logically we'd probably expect to see somewhere in the region of 5 x 146= 730.

Which is pretty much bang on, we saw 737!

Brilliant assessment as ever - we are very lucky to have you Tom!

Just to say I was a little surprised at how far down this reached actually. Whilst I agree normally first away game sells out fast, on this occasion it may be slightly different:

- It's one of the longer trips from Ipswich
- 4.30 Sunday kick off is a real off-putter
- Although, to mitigate it IS a bank holiday on the Monday however that also means train prices are through the roof compared to an average wknd and many more people than normal are likely to be away on holiday.

I could also add that most fans would expect us to lose this one quite comfortably too which might knock off a few. But I also recognise not all Town fans will be as militant as I am about boycotting the showbiz clubs and their infinite thirst for profits... (my own reason for passing this one up).

I'm looking forward to the Palace analysis as that should give the best idea of how many we've got in each APP group given it's a bog standard, Saturday 3pm, easy London trip on a nondescript weekend - and also potentially a game it's possible we might just sneak a result from.

The element that’s hard to assess is how many in the top categories of +30 and +25 waited to buy later on with friends in lower categories such as +20 or +15.

I was on 30 before Man Utd went on sale, but bought at +20 as a mate was on 21.

I would guess that with the game being on a Bank Holiday Sunday at 4.30 and on SKY may have been the reason not so many were sold in the 30+ and 25+.

I expected it to sell out in those 2 groups as it would have done for all games in the last few years.

Apart from places like Blackburn, the ticket allocation for most away games last season probably averaged not much more than 2,000.

This will have had an impact on the amount of points that large numbers could build up, so with an allocation of 3,000 at Man Utd, there was bound to be a bit more leeway, but I had thought that 20+ might be the cut-off.

Maybe there was also an element of picking and choosing last season, not least because we rarely set the world alight especially on our travels.

Its also pride weekend in Manchester, which puts train and hotel prices up... so I do wonder if a few people have decided to skip it. Will be interesting to see how it goes for the next couple. London games usually sell hard, so Palace might be a bit different, and then Everton is obviously a new stadium, so a lot of people will want to visit there. We then follow up with City and Hull. A lot of North to start the season! Good for me as a Manc based blue....

If you'd missed 6 games last season you'd have started this season on 28 points. We sold 1500 in 25+ and 30+ so it's roughly comparable.

I do about 7 northern away games a season so always start on 17 points. Never had an issue getting a ticket other than Liverpool. Although Man City was close. I think we got the last two tickets available. Everton, Man United, Newcastle etc no problem.

Always a lot happier once I get to 20 points though.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

I do about 7 northern away games a season so always start on 17 points. Never had an issue getting a ticket other than Liverpool. Although Man City was close. I think we got the last two tickets available. Everton, Man United, Newcastle etc no problem.

Always a lot happier once I get to 20 points though.
