| World Cup take over dead in the water on 07:52 - Jul 31 by bluelagos | Football played in quarters is great? Half time shows is great? USA president getting a banned player unbanned is great? £5000 for a ticket to a semi final is great? Train fares increased to $150 for a usual $4 fare is great? The football may of been descent but the idea that the World Cup was great is very blinkered. |
As someone that went to multiple games in multiple venues, it was an absolutely class, fan experience compared to the last two tournaments was very good. [Post edited 31 Jul 15:10]

and did you enjoy it because of the reasons given or despite them? the football could be equally as good without trump and infantino's corruption

Did you boo the ‘hydration’ breaks and then have a dance and sing song as well?

| World Cup take over dead in the water on 07:15 - Jul 31 by Benters | Thank God indeed. I have to say that this last WC was great, many on here reckoned it would be rubbish,it was far from that. I didn’t go a lot on the hydration breaks but mostly it was great. |
I love the hydration/smoke breaks

The football was good, although from the quarters onwards you could argue it that wasn’t great in terms of games. i just think the fan experience and Americanization/wow factor of it was actually great for any one that attended in person. You wouldn’t want it at every tournament but people very much enjoyed what some of these stadiums and environments offered. I had been to the venues before so knew what to expect but hearing an English atmosphere in there was really cool. Dallas and Atlanta are unreal venues. Doha was modern but a lot more soulless and lacked the experienced that for example AT&T has. Those that got to mix that experience with the Azteca would have got the best of both worlds in terms of history and the new mega venues. Also great is see fans from far and wide, turn the news off and come and enjoy the country and hospitality, with road trips through the south, attending rodeos etc and just having fun. Uefa, Afcon & all others who objected should use this opportunity and stick together to opt out of Fifa anyway, whether or not this particular plan is kicked into touch. Fifa will only come up with a diluted version to sell the WC down the river in due course; and this is the right time to bury their carcase to create a new org. that will genuinely have the best interests of the game at heart.

| World Cup take over dead in the water on 21:56 - Jul 30 by Cafe_Newman | Africa will follow suit. Looking forward to the USA v Guam 2030 WC Final. Come on Guam!! |
USA is in CONCACAF so they are already out. And Guam is an American Protectorate so they’re probably ‘out’ too, since they’re likely not ‘In’ to begin with.

Re your last paragraph, the extent to which us in the UK now view the USA through a Donald Trump filter does probably skew our opinions. It's hard not to do that though, given everything, and I suspect it's easier to see things differently when you live there.
