| Israeli West Bank settlers ultra extreme views on 14:47 - Aug 2 by BanksterDebtSlave | A.I... British Jews maintain a strong, widespread affinity and emotional attachment to Israel, alongside deep concern for its welfare, according to data from the Institute of Jewish Policy Research (JPR). Key findings show 77% to 78% feel attached to Israel, 88% view it as the ancestral homeland, and 71% feel a great deal of concern for Israelis, even as opinions on Israeli political leadership remain heavily critical. [1, 2, 3] Core Measures of Affinity Ancestral Connection: 88% of British Jews regard Israel as the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. Emotional Attachment: 77% report feeling attached to Israel, with high rates of personal visits and familial ties. Concern for Citizens: 71% express a great deal of personal concern for the lives and safety of Israelis. [1, 2, 3] You have to wonder surely with your attitude why academics repeatedly bother to research the views of non Israel resident views about that country in a way they never would about the wider Muslim population about say Afghanistan!! The difference is obvious but there are some that refuse to acknowledge it so as to be able to throw accusations around! https://www.jpr.org.uk/reports antisemitism-and-jewish-life |
Michael Rosen wrote this at the time of the 2019 election to suggest Jewish opinion in the UK was not as monolithic as might be thought. "In all the surveys of Jewish opinion in the UK, I have never been sure of how the survey of the 142,000 non-religious Jews is done. How do they find us? One survey created a ‘panel’ having found secular Jews by focussing on Jews in areas where there is a high Jewish population and people having ‘Jewish names’. Ahem ahem – apart from Hebrew and Hebraic names there are no Jewish names. Most Jews in this country have German, Polish (if they (we) are ‘Ashkanzim’ or Sephardi names which may be e.g. Italian or Spanish) and/or we have English names! What’s more, since the arrival of many EU citizens, there are many Germans and Poles who have names that before were considered to be ‘Jewish’ like ‘Meyer’ – a standard German name that some Jews have. The surveys may be accurate – perhaps – but this method of polling looks decidedly dodgy. I have challenged this many times on twitter and no one has successfully defended it so far." And polls in the US suggest attitudes to Israel and Gaza are much more varied than the views thought to exist in the UK. https://apnews.com/article/ame [Post edited 2 Aug 18:56]

You have jumped on the fact that I pointed out that Jews have not in any great numbers vocally opposed this genocide. I didn't make a big issue about it and just pointed it out as an explanation for the rising anti Jewish actions around the world. This relative silence also enables the racists and the genuine antisemites. There also seems to be lots of excuses for the election of Netanyahu and the Arab haters and there is nothing that can be done but to get Israeli allies to come down heavily on anyone else who challanges Israels military actions against the Palastinians. I can understand why Jews worldwide do not want to put their head above the parapet but those in higher positions who are protected see to be more focused on perceived or real antisemitism. I looks like this is being used as a protective blanket and avoids addressing the Palestinian 'preblem'. I also think that this strategy is counter productive and just perpetuates the horror. I am not seeing any sign of a Good Friday Agreement even being considered by Israel. Just to point out that while Ed has a huge Irish affinity, he does not have an Irish passport. Maybe it would be better to ask Tommy ten names about the bomb as he does have one. All this is complete nonsense anyway and a deflection on the excusing the Jewish silence on something that themselves experienced and want to protect themselves from ever happening again. |
But there seems to be the mindset that, if a Jewish person does not speak up against the actions of Israel, then they deserve anti-Semitic comments and actions, which is incredulous. "They bring it on themselves".

Whose mindset? I am just pointing out that it does encourage that type of reaction. I am actually trying to indicate that it would be more beneficial for conflict resolution for everyone to voice their views rather than hide behind the antisemitic shield. Regarding "they bring it on themselves" comment, I seem to remember this being used in the Israeli response to the October 7 attacks. What Hamas did that day was horrific and unacceptable and so was the response. Also there is another way for Jews worldwide to alter the current situation. I don't see any huge promotion of a two state solution or any place for Palastinian to have their own state. Would that be a unacceptable position to be promoted worldwide by Jews?

That is the “interesting” things about Banksters post. Bankster as far as I know is not a member of a diaspora. Welsh, yes Welsh people reach out and do surveys on the Disapora. https://globalwelsh.com/news-i I would have used some Irish examples, but you know, wanted to keep in with my Celtic friends. So, Bankster is now using AI slop and downies to make points about something he has no experience. And it should be shut down as of immediate effect. As should Islamophobia if those from an Islamic faith do not speak against the likes of Hamas and Al Qaeda. Argue against them, encourage them to speak up, ask whey they're not doing so - I can see no issue when it comes to opening dialogue. But it shouldn't result in outright attacks, nor used as a reason or a form of acceptance for abuse. My personal opinion is a two state solution isn't possible and will never work. The only way forward is for the area of Israel and Palestine to become united under something akin to the Good Friday Agreement, which I think someone mentioned earlier, where both Israelis and Palestinians have equal rights and equal powers. But this feels a long way off as it stands, and Western Governments appeasing Israel's current government will not improve matters.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t ignoring the rest, I had started to reply to DJR, but here it is In the context of a discussion about holding members of a diaspora accountable for the actions of a Government in a different country. What relevance could posting about attitudes of a diaspora have to the discussion. To suggest Jewish people are somehow unique in their feelings for a country, or there is weird reason why the Jewish diaspora is surveyed? Of course Bankster, you didn’t make an actual point. “ You have to wonder…the difference is obvious” Why don’t we first deal with that. Are we entertaining the presumption that the Jewish diaspora is somehow different to the Scottish diaspora that used to have, famously Sean Connery, tax exile living in the Bahamas, being a fervent supporter of Scottish Independence. And so therefore because a survey says something percent, that means…. Seems to me that is false discussion. One that is playing into the “Jewish people are different…look here is a survey…….therefore” And yeah, if a specific person is saying something, yeah I prefer mentioning people directly, rather than posters that talk about “the lefties” “ the righties”, the “Counago-ists” “Shefki’ts”.

| Israeli West Bank settlers ultra extreme views on 17:07 - Aug 2 by Ryorry | You've completely ignored that several people on here alone, either Jewish or with Jewish spouses or other connections, have condemned MANY times, on numerous occasions, Netanyahu's appalling and illegal actions - so you can't have failed to see those protests, as you're frequently on these threads. That highlights exactly what I said earlier about having no traction - when even you are deaf/blind/able to forgot those posts, it shows in microcosm the pointlessness of such protests/condemnations; & how appalling it is to blame the Jewish diaspora themselves for the antisemitism aimed at them. Sorry, I've only just seen your comment. This is what I said. "In this country, you don't really hear the voices of Jewish people opposed to what's going on in Gaza, just as you don't really hear the voices of politicians truly critical of Israel's actions in Gaza." As regards my first sentence, I was talking about hearing their voices in the media, not on TWTD, which in turn in my view gives a misleading view of Jewish opinion. The problem is that it seems very difficult to say anything about Israel and Gaza without it being misinterpreted. Indeed, your second paragraph appears to accuse me of something that doesn't fit with what I posted above and later, namely. "Leaving aside the fact that it is wrong to hold diaspora Jews responsible for the actions of the State of Israel, why should we expect Jews in this country to criticise Israel when the entire political establishment has kept its head down these last 3 years?" I suppose that's the thing I find most galling with TWTD (and no doubt it is at tame end of social media), namely, that rather than merely disagreeing with a person people on occasions cast aspersions. Indeed, it is why I am often tempted just to give up the only social media I use. [Post edited 2 Aug 22:04]

To reiterate - third time I've said it on this thread - numerous people have, repeatedly, over years, including some Jewish TWTDers and others here related to Jewish people - yet not a single person on this thread repeatedly telling them to do that, has even once bothered to acknowledge that they already have. As I said earlier, if you take this forum as a microcosm of the wider world - Jewish voices protesting against Netanyahu & his rotten regime seem to be either ignored or forgotten. Considering also the personal risk some are taking in revealing their ethnicity (because not all IDs are actually completely anonymous on here), maybe that's why many don't bother.

Of course I am aware of Jewish people who are critical. Indeed, I know Jenny Manson Co-Chair of Jewish Voice for Liberation - a nicer person you couldn't hope to meet. . My point is that such views are very much marginalised, and quoting Tribune* (to which I subscribe and which has a tiny readership) rather proves my point. As regards my so-called clarification, that has always been my position and one I have consistently put forward on TWTD. And as regards the 7 hour gap, I was away in Eastbourne for the day. * I subscribe to Tribune not because I read it much but to keep alive a publication for which George Orwell wrote that nearly went out of business a few years ago. Yes, I explained my personal situation. And explained why a phrase you used was Bollox. I didn’t accuse you of enabling the murder of children. I didn’t call the poster arrogant, I used an example, said it’s arrogance to think you can tell a minority group how they should act. I didn’t say the poster was responsible for attacking Jewish people, or anti-Semitic. Now you may think that is just using squirmy language, we will get to that. “…just their silence..” so Jews don’t have free speech anymore, they have to satisfy your desire to approve or not approve. Jewish people in Venezuela have to satisfy your need to know their thoughts. Jeez, that’s what people used to do to me in the U.K. after terrorists attacks. You probably haven’t followed my posts but if I want to insult someone I do. People need fewer people in the world that think they can insult and bully people just cause of who they are. You are one of the bullies. FU.
