I'm no Tory but I don't really see what she brings. It started under Johnson but it seems to me that they're becoming an increasingly narrow church. Right of right of centre which is neither one thing or the other. I'm sure there must be a lot of moderate, centre right rather than right wing Conservatives who don't rave about the likes of Badenoch, Philp, Trott etc

She’s awful. I thought she dealt with this issue not too badly though (for her). Not brilliantly because she still couldn’t divert from the script and got in a muddle justifying his selection for local representation but not national. They should have the same bar. Yet her points about rehabilitation were valid. If this person was an ex drug dealer or gang member who’d reformed and was now teaching inner city kids about the dangers of drugs and gangs the Guardian would run a double page spread on him with soft focus shots of him staring off into the distance in front of a backdrop of a bit of graffiti on the wall of his youth club.

I'm not sure I would say that Kemi is awful. It's more that she's leading a shell of a party with very little around her. I'm not into identity politics, but she is a good role model for many. The problem is her lack of depth and the confusion on whether to occupy the centre ground. I don''t think she is politically instinctive.

I think there''s tremendous merit in rehabilitation and I do wish we didn't totally shun people, especially those that made wrong choices when they were young. As my posts yesterday pointed out, we should be more generous in giving people the benefit of the doubt.

On the point of the Guardian, wouldn't they normally be extolling the merits of having a black political leader? I can't stand their hypocrisy.

you speak some sense on the benefits of rehabilitation, but i'm with gb on this one, he shouldn't be considered for political positions given his past.

as for the other point, that the guardian should be extoling badenoch just because she's black, that's an appalling thing to say and would be a racist position to hold.

should they have supported mugabe? should they have supported kwarteng? should they have supported truss, just because she's a woman? should they have supported trump just because of his disability ("bone spurs"!)?

they don't, because all have some dreadful (and in some cases discriminatory) policies, which is what should be the important thing to consider, not their race or gender

Don't get me wrong Positivity, I was saying the opposite. I don't like identity politics in any form. I was just saying that usually the Guardian falls into that trap. Indeed, with the story in recent days of the Cambridge professor. Very clearly, treat all people on their merits.

You may wish to have a closer look at china’s energy policy.

You might even find that it changing…

It's easy to have a change in policy from a position of strength. They are still actively building out coal, gas, and oil plants we're too scared to even drill which is mental in the current climate.

Re OP, I think she's doing a meh job to be honest. Changes her stance too often for my liking. I'm getting to the stage where I don't care who is in power so long as they can fix, energy, welfare, and public sector pensions.

ok, still don't accept "usually" though or they'd usually be taking the sides i mentioned, which they don't.

for all the guardian's faults, policy is the thing it primarily attacks rather than identity.

it's far more likely to attack someone for having reprehensible views than the colour of their skin

It's clear the RW press are happy with her and will push her lots more now and ignore her faults, why they've been given carte blanche to (finally) go fully after Reform and Farage now because she's climate sceptic which is seemingly main criteria for Murdoch press

I think she does some stuff well, but she's a classic person who is just terminally online - she thinks things are a big deal because people on Twitter are talking about them and doesn't realise the majority of the population don't care

She doesn't have a clue. She's unelectable and a placeholder while they have no chance of getting elected.

There are only two serious options. Labour, if Burnham can turn things around, and Reform. Reform are 'serious' because they have support not because they have any answers or ability to change things.

Badenoch is so desperate to be seen as having some sort of relevance I don't think she cares what type of attention it is as long as someone is remembering the Tories exist.

Your opinions seem to be out of touch with nearly all Conservatives, and lots of the general population. Badenoch is one of a very small group of recent politicians who actually have net positive approval levels across the electorate.
It appears that your obvious loathing of tories is getting in the way of a sensible answer!

not sure if that's the case; she may be popular with conservatives, but only because she's purged any who think differently to her!

with the electorate at large, it appears to be pretty unfavourable still

If the tories win an election with Badenoch in charge I will be utterly staggered.

3 second quotes don't say a lot......she did say why she thinks it - i.e. that Reform are just victims, not interested in making things better but just whinging and looking to grab power that way

I see she's ruled out working with Reform as they're 'too woke'. Truly, satire is dead.
