The bedroom has an en suite. If I leave that door open, then the bathroom cools down. I wouldn't expect my living room unit to make any difference to the hallway though.
I bought direct from Worcester Bosch, and their local installers were very good; quick & tidy. The outside unit is huge. There was a 5-month wait due to shortage of parts, btw.

In my experience, I have not had any overspill effect, or not enough to be noticeable. Expecting cold air to funnel out of a doorway in enough mass to effect a temperature change is being hopeful. someone might have a different experience though.

Not sure what spillage is in relation to AC, but will say despite it being a standard feature in almost every house and apartment over here, the very best night’s sleep remain those where it’s cool enough to have the AC off and windows open. Fresh air is undefeated
The answer is...it depends. Are you looking at getting air con upstairs or downstairs? (Assuming you don't live in a bungalow?)
Assuming you are only looking at having aircon fitted upstairs in a one bedroom.
'Overspill' does happen. It's a simple matter of physics - warm air moves to cold air - ie if one room is cold, so long as you have no obstructions (ie your doors aren't closed) then the warm air from your other room will go towards to cooler room, therefore cooling your other room in the process.
What I will say however is a lot depends on the size of the rooms and your house in general. If you have a large hallway/landing and other rooms upstairs too for example with your doors open, that's a large volume of air that will move and the 'overspill' will be greatly reduced. You'd need to have a very powerful BTU unit in that one room.
Also remember that heat rises - so if an upstairs is cooled, then heat from downstairs will naturally rise too, again adding much higher volume of warmer air and reducing cooling effect for another room upstairs.
So you CAN get away with one unit in one room, if you have a smaller house or keep most of your other doors closed except for the other room you want to cool (bearing in mind all those other rooms will stay hot) - but my recommendation, if you can afford it of course, would be to get 2 upstairs with one outdoor unit (which is what i got), as that will keep your whole house cool including the downstairs, not just one or two rooms.
I’ve looked into this for our new house. It’s apparently more efficient in the long term having 2 units than 1 unit running on full constantly, which is what will happen with 1 unit.
My early and brief research into air con is, in the same way as heating a house the air con unit has to be powerful enough to cool a specific area, so a small unit one room and a larger more powerful unit would cool the surrounding rooms, portable units are cheaper to buy, easier to install but more expensive to run. Whereas fixed units are more expensive to buy but cheaper to run, I am thinking about a fixed solution with external unit and two internal head units. I have also been advised to go for a more expensive good named brand rather than a cheap model as they are much more reliable.

The upstairs landing is quite long so yeh there could be limited spillover to bedroom 2. The kitchen is closer to the Living room so may get better spillover but again the hall is long.

It makes a considerable difference to be fair.
I did a little investigation earlier this summer. In our front room, it made a 4 degree C difference. Closed curtains and windows vs open curtains and windows...so cooler with curtains and windows closed.
Don't know how helpful that is!

I closed my vertical blinds and closed curtains as well on the window in my lounge facing the morning sun and that made a big difference, so external shutters would also help a lot, on a recent holiday the property had internal shutters, but I would expect external ones to stop the direct sun / heat and then double glazing would add a bit more protection to be better.

If you use both your bedrooms, I would suggest actually having both units upstairs in the 2 bedrooms. That way it will keep your entire upstairs cool, AND will draw warm air naturally upwards from the whole of downstairs, keeping that cool too. This is the system I have and it works really well.
If you go for one in bedroom 1 and one in living room and they are diagonal, bedroom 2 still isn't going to get much cooling because of the directions that air moves.

Thanks for input. We us bedroom 1 to sleep in at night and then wife uses bedroom 2 in the mornings to get ready. Bedroom 2 is above the living room and adjacent to bedroom 1. So bedroom 2 won’t get benefit from the living room air con because we won’t have it on in the AM unless she goes and turns it on!!! But I then expect it takes a while to get benefit from it to another floor?
Realistically bedroom 2 and kitchen air con is needed much less than the rooms we are having the units - but it’s a “nice to have” certainly
I'm in early stages of renovating a house and looking at using fixed air conditioning in most rooms to heat during the winter as well as cool.
The house only has a Aga (no longer working) and a log burner so no current heating system. Not connected to the gas network so it's either oil or electric to heat. Installing radiators and using oil seems like a backwards step so we've landed on air con as the solution. There are new units that include a boiler too.
Appreciate the electric costs will be high in winter, but hoping to offset with solar and the log burner. Be interested to hear if anyone has experience of doing similar.

I live in a small terraced house with no suitable outdoor wall space for an air con unit. I have glass bi-fold doors at the back with sloping glass ceiling panels above them which are South facing and so it gets very hot!
I've been looking at Solar Control Window Film to try and reduce the amount of heat but I'm not sure how effective it is (and am also slightly concerned that it is reflective and might shine unwanted light at neighbours). Does anyone have any experience or views on how effective it is?
