Feels like we've set ourselves up really nicely to take advantage of some of the better players who typically become available in August ...

Assuming we get Enciso through the door, that's 9 additions and a team that can really compete for the first three games.

That will hopefully make us more attractive to incomings whilst also allowing us to take a few risks towards the end of the window.

I still think we need a starting striker, a more creative 8, two fullbacks and someone to compete with Greaves but we have time and a great foundation to get them.

Of course people will complain but feel like we are way ahead of where we were 2 years ago. Still very likely to fail (relegation) but I dont think we can blame recruitment this time (although they will), Im not sure realistically there is much else we could have done.

Weve still got a few more weeks to top up, plus of course the 2 wild cards of loans which are likely to prove valuable additions (no Kalvin Phillips)

Now to work to finishing about 3 teams, establish that base and then develop.

This is how I feel. We now just need to get those final necessary players in. 4-5 to go, and another £75-100M imo.

People often hate the idea of us not being first choice, but one thing that might be really useful is if there's 1 or 2 higher quality players that seemed beyond us earlier in the window who as things get closer to deadline day start to see us as their most realistic option. Like with Brobbey and Sunderland last season.

You make good points. A lot of people who get impatient about the time it takes for us to get signings in, and laud Sunderland’s transfer activity, forget that Brobby came in on deadline day.

Really? Im genuinely not trying to be negative here but it all looks very comparable to me and we're still not picking up any players from the foreign markets on any kind of real scale. The only one that's possibly a step up is Diop who has been a Premier League squad player for years. Fatawu & Omari are comparable, Maeda and Szmodics are comparable, unproven young striker currently leading the line, similar to Delap. Not sure Scherpen has a better pedigree than Muric & Lukic is what we thought we were signing with Kalvin Phillips. We've then got a guy I know nothing about in all honesty but he failed to make a mark at Burnley.

I think we've got A LOT of business to do if we're genuinely going to have a shot at staying up. I don't mind a huge amount what happens next season, anything other than relegation is a bonus. (Obviously I do mind but I'm not going to kick off and cry about it, unless we beat Derby's lowest point total)

I understand you are not trying to be negative, but you have looked at the situation in the most negative way you can possibly look at this.

Let's wait and see what the team looks like on the pitch before we start comparing them to the 2024 team.

This was our squad at the beginning of August 2024. Compare that to now for depth. Sure we need a few more signings yet, but we’re clearly in a better position right now than at the same point in 2024

Compare that to right now, especially players with PL, top leagues elsewhere or champions league experience. We also have 3 1/2 weeks of the transfer window to improve further. IMO we’re in a far stronger position.

I wouldn’t maybe say it like that, but yeah - it’s not great

. It improved a bit before the transfer window closed, but hopefully we’ll also see some more significant signings before the window closes.

Yep, the starting striker ( of PL quality, otherwise there's no point of him being here ) is a gold plated absolute essential. Agree with 2 fullbacks also, and more concerned with getting a CM who can progress the ball and pass than competition for JG, though I get where you're coming from. To that little list I would add a left winger. Do all that and I honestly believe we'll give ourselves a good shot at it this time.
